I feed the lammiprone all year round - I know it says you can take them off or reduce but tbh for what it costs I would rather leave Acorn and Charlie on it, Tess will probably come off it over winter -shes never had lammi.
We feed HH - Acorn gets about 1/3rd scoop morning and night, Charlie gets 1/2 a scoop morning and night and Tess gets 1 scoop morning and night, in winter she gets 3/4 scoop and a handful of Alfa A.
Suprising we can maintain their weight on the above feeding throughout the year, they rarely fluctuate more than a few kg, providing grass management and exercise are in place.

Hi Tracy - great to hear alls well, just keep running Hun - thank god I don't have to run Charlie out its bad enough with Acorn.
Try and keep at his shoulders and make him move with you rather than you become a target for him to push on, once you have it in Walk then start the trotting out and finally a good run out... for extension. You will get there - youngsters - great aren't they!

Tess, Nuts and Acorn are all fine - watching the grass like a hawk though with this stupid weather.

Charlie went lame Friday on o/s fore - we suspected Abcess although Farrier came Sunday afternoon and couldn't find anything - heat in rear inside 1/4 and a pulse- tubbed and pouliced, yesterday evening some signs of gunk, this morning definate gunk from that back quarter near the heal on the poultice - epsom salts doing their job - hes now not lame, running around like a loony and full of attitude, Poulticed again and out today - will stop tubbing after tonight and then continue with the poulticing until clear. This was the foot that was badly bruised so abcess not unexpected - soft foot and these weather conditions underfoot, a damn nucience all the same. Hopefully back up to the field at the weekend.

forgot to mention - we have sucessfully identified Training Aid for Charlie - up to now tubbing of foot has been a no-no - the new Training Aid - Colour Orange, Size Various - instructions for use: cut into small sizes and give as a reward - yes a Carrot!

Now we never give treats to either Charlie or Acorn due to lammi association - however we really need to tub his foot - I happened to have a carrot left in my pocket from Nuts and Tess, so I cut it up into bits, we asked him to lift leg and then put it in bucket - as usual 1st bucket over us - next step up - a treat - next place bucket under foot and ask him to put down as he does treat - take leg out start again - next time was easy: repeated this time down - straight into bucket looked for treat - we can now tub him for the required 5 minutes morning and night with little fuss - down to 1/4 of a small carrot each time so 1/2 a carrot a day for no grief, the poultice goes on and he only gets a treat for that if he stands without being a pain all the way through the process - then its a herbal nut treat. tubbing stops tonight so he may just get other half of carrot for being good as he won't be getting any more for a long while hopefully.

hi lin

no missed one show last week, working one coming up in two weeks, so have the little man ready for that. well when i say ready i mean washed :) hes so playfull so runing him around going to be fun!! just hope he dosent bit anyone he likes to nip people on the bums and runs away so its going to be fun x
 
All seems well, lost her huge grass belly and feeling less hard in the crest.
Turned out on the bare paddock in the evening with the boys and in for a bit during the day and out for a wee while on longer grass muzzled but we are having a mini heat wave so dreading what will happen to the grass now.
 
Well we moved fields on Sunday - to another winter field - side of a quarry :) was pleased and hoping we could improve tolerance to grass and they can now be out at night. There is still very little in it but more than the other field!

I got up there this morning to find a frantic rascal running about screaming and no rascal anywhere. I spent an hour looking for her everywhere - she was four fields away from where I left her last night! Knee deep in grass and incredibly footsore so they are in. Not sure how she has Escaped as he would be the first one to escape!

Sounds as if you are getting there, then along comes something else to test your metal! really hot here today - all ours out on restricted but still manage to find enough for a belly!
 
How are we all doing? we are still on thread here - Charlie has abcessed in his ns front - so thats all 4 now - started with bruising and under run abcesses in both backs resulting in stress lammi in all 4 - then bruising and abcess in o/s front and now 2 month later n/s front - other than abcess hes sound - Back feet are good and remedial trimming is almost complete - o/s front will be a few more months yet before growth to floor is right but already its so much better - his n/s cosmetically is good and needs no remedial as lgl effect was minimal - our farrier has done an amazing job with them - hes 3 weekly trimmed and hes out to him same day when we have had abcess issues - he gave us the option right at the start - we could go with a dramatic remedial including shoes or the long game sympathetic trimming at shorter intervals the way he would prfer to go - so did we - we have lost this year showing and his riding education has had to stop - but farrier has said once we get this abcess out of way then to build him up and restart him - the work will help with his remedial and foot rebuilding, it will have been a long haul of 12 months but if all goes to plan 2013 should be back on track. The white line is tightening nicely - didn't think after Acorn we could be so unlucky as have to go through it all again with another - just shows how unpredictable it can be - stress/trauma related in both cases following injury - lessons learnt in management in recovery with Acorn has helped in Charlies and where it took 2 years with Acorn we have managed in1 with Charlie - both are managed the same - neither where obese and out of when you would expect grass flush to be an issue - Acorn is now on top form and proving to be a very keen ridden - Charlie i will soon be starting and hopefully will be just as keen - just pleased we never thought of giving up on eiher of them they are proof there is always a chance of a good life after lammi! I count myself lucky to have these results.

hope alls well with all hooves. linda love love the new pics charlies looking so well, and the little man :) alls good here with llwy hubby been sorting llwy out the last few weeks as i fell over taking llwy to paddock and damage my ankle, that was sorting its self out and i was missing llwy so i went over to see him after two weeks after rsting my ankle as i couldnt put any weight on it at all. great to see him but ?? ankle gave way and i was on the floor again damage ankle but this time dislocated shoulder as well, my god the pain oh yes i :cry: put back in place that nite, just in a sling now, so not seen llwy again for days hate not seeing him, but hes fine he dose need to lose some weight ?? hubby been giving him to many goodie me thinks.?? any way off to hospital for check up just wanted to look in to see all ok

Not the bearer of good news here.
Only out half days muzzled but Heidi is obviously getting more than enough grass as she has toasty feet.
Farrier was out today and isn't overly concerned but did think a few days off wouldn't do her any harm. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
She is gaining weight even though in soaked hay and in as much as out.
Next tactic is putting her out on the long grass as opposed to all the short stressed grass.
 
Goodness what a time you are all having,poor bobcat bet your ankle aches really badly you poor soul. Clashnoir think this year the growing season is all to pot , my poor boy is so sensitive to grass that I've resorted to a postage stamp for him not ideal as he doesn't move about as much as if he was tearing round the big field. But even with that he's in most of the time but am not soaking hay at the moment so that's one good thing as lifting soaked haynets is murder with my arthritis. I ride him daily usually hack out as he prefers that to schooling, well he's a highland isn't he & has two big fears, starvation & overexertion :biggrin:
 
Hello all, its been ages since ive popped in, have read through some of the posts and good to see all ponies doing well,,..... hope you feeling better Tracy:hot:

I am going to say this quietly as dont want to jinx things but.....had the vet out for jabs last week, she was thrilled with how cass looks, not a fat pad in sight, no crest, she said she is perfect weight.....she said that she is very proud of me (made me chuckle as she is a young whipper snapper:bounce:) with how we have done as she knows how hard it is...... it has taken a yard move, lots of work, a small bald paddock on a very expensive yard but cass definately feels good, been learning to jump even which i didnt think she would ever do. hope you dont mind me sharing this its just i know you will understand how pleased i am:dance:

Great to hear from you all, damn weather, looks like weeks of this yet -:banghead: - we have all shows cancelled on us since end of May - only managed one riding lesson with Emma since, battling the grass and wht with Charlie and his feet, and being continually soaked I am really lookin forward to some Summer Sun - fry in July they said -:poop: to that - if it carries on maybe August:cry:

You must be so proud of what the Vet said re Cass - well done you should be - I think its fantastic - its worth all the hardwork and grey hairs......

Had to laugh re the Highland thing, I can just imagine highland riders all over the Country riding them humming steptoe & Son:giggle: its one of those Tunes that rattles in your head, prob end up doin it myself leadin ACorn in tonight now:wink:
 
Good news on Charlie - abcess is draining well and hes moving normally again and full of it - flip the blo8dy coin and Acorn is now causing a concern - brought hom in this morning due to weather a bit slow but didn't think much of it as he is uaually reluctant coming in and leaving the field, in all day as weather torrential - tonight hes fine on grass but feeling stones a bit off on one front - nothing in feet - standing normally - s bit grumpy and a protien build up in neck :banghead: suspect he has stressed during the day - some tightness in shoulder - will see how he is in the morning - he needs to exercise to stop him tying up but the fields are lakes good areas sodden and grass is growing like hell due to warmth - the forcast is not good so its going to be a management challenge keeping him moving while we sort it - luckily I am at home for 10 days now - have farrier on Monday to Charlie so will get him to have a look if things not improving - Vets here in a week to nuts - a bit of dejavu with the 3 months of muscle problems we had last summer - just wish this damn rain would go away and we could get back to his normal management routine.
Show on Sunday is cancelled but we wouldn;t have been going now anyway :stomp:
