laminitis now abscess 2

All quiet this end - had Farrier on Sunday, Tess is fine, Acorns feet are a bit bruised due to "short Stuff" as farrier calls him hooning around on the hard ground - but no signs of lammi.

Charlie was very good for him (big suprise after all bother we have been having) he has abcessed in both back feet - the abcess's have under run the sole and are soft - so on with the keratex hoof hardner and hes out 24/7,hes running around like a good on soft, a bit tentative on the rutty frozen bits but not to pack and the more he moves the quicker they will recover - no wonder poor little man wouldn't let them be picked, there is evidence of an lgl episode in the injured leg - not active now, from growth etc about 3 weeks ago - which ties in with the Vet visit and 5 hours of stress - suspect that is the trigger - no long term damage , a bit of stretching on the lamminae but farrier is not worried, a couple of trims will sort he thinks, thank god we took him in when we did. So £100+ vet bill, best part of a tube of sedalin which is no good to us at all , 5 hours of stress for us all and a mild LGL episode, 2 not good looking back feet at the moment but no long term damage, hes running around like a good un - daughter gave vets a bit of stick when she rang them to update. Farrier is brilliant, he texted daughter to day to see how he was coping so he could update his notes.
Charlie and ACorn will both be done in another 5 weeks. Tess will go 10 again.

They are shooting today so hopefully all is well when we go tonight, ACorn has had to stay in so he will be out in his top paddock tonight for an hour to keep him moving.
roll on Friday lunchtime and I get a few days break with the hols and can spend more time with him, get him out for some walks.

hi Tracey and a happy new year to you and yours!

all quiet this end, making the most of the mild weather and the days off -
Emma has had 3 rides over the past week - 2 on the road and one in the menage next door - Acorn is loving it - i have been long reining him inbetween and today he had his leather driving harness on for the first time - all except driving bridle as want him to be familiar with the harness before the driving bridle goes on - not sure what he will think about his blinkers but will see...he will prob take it in his stride like everything else -

Charlie is coping with his feet - only time he feels it is if the ground is really soft but farrier said that is to be expected as he will feel the pressure - again its maily the foot on the leg which was injured and unless you know about it you prob wouldn't notice -

weather changing tonight - we get worst in morning - think you are due for it earlier than us - will be ponds in the field again tommorrow - shouldn't complain though as we have had it so mild up to now-

glad llyw is okay - hows the rest?

thought I'd pop by and say "happy new year". Hope you're all managing ok in the mild weather? My grass is growing again and causing no end of worry, I've got the boys on a track and we're slowly strip grazing round it although its not the best for Frank who ideally could do with being completely grass free (due to his epsm).

Ive had my grass analysed (by forageplus) and i'm supplementing accordingly and (touching lots of wood) Franks feet are looking alot better for it.

Hi great to hear from you - yes our Grass is the same, not stopped growing, although we have plenty of rough grazing on the hill which is not rich, the paddocks they have come off are a rich green colour, this is their spring grazing so it will have to be managed well come March/April........

always something to be watching for with them..........

same here with grass. and we have two big bales of hayalge in paddock and there not being eaten ? so grass is about. all horse are fine, didnt end up getting the too little ponys :( looking after 15 and i no is only two more but when i gave it more thought its two more that we can not do anythink with. cute as they where.

llwy doing great poor boy has lost a few teeth and big teeth have came throw but some days find ing hard to eat hard feed poor boy.

Hi Tracy great to hear from you - glad all is well your end - fine here at the moment except for me full of bl**dy cold - mild here - a bit of rain yesterday but the lakes have dried up quite well - grass still growing and no sign of it stopping - need some frost to do that - what a strange winter we are having!

Alf had a bit of a run in with a rather grumpy old cob resulting in battered and bruised boy but its all turned out good as he has now moved in the same field as Cass (his mum) which is good for me. (Last time we tried she was not best pleased to see him:bounce:)
Weight and feet good .......long may it continue!
 
hi all

its good to hear all hooves are doing well, llwy is fine hes still bit sore on tooth front bless him but dosent stop him play fighting with others horses. its wired weather at min to put horses out without rugs on but they are loving it rolling around in the mud, so fuuny today putting all of them out one of the cobs hes 18 now went to the big poo pit by pasted the gate he should have got throw to the paddock and all four hooves in air and rolled in al the old poo and straw so funny well not for owner later :giggle: they are funny.. well horses all done now for house work before going back to bring then all in.

Hi Tracey, great to hear from you and all well your end.

We are okay - Charlies hooves on the mend , Acorns himself and Tess is just Tess! we are now into moult so shedder is out...... bloody hair all over the place.

We have Farrier this weekend to both Charlie and Acorn, and hopefully if all is well Acorn has show 1 out of 4 of a winter showing series following weekend - first one in hand, may get him out with Emma for the Feb show, its points accumilator so will see how we get on - you watch we will be up to the waist in Snow and cancelled.

Both Charlie and Acorn have their annual jabs on Monday - that will be it for them for another year!

lot happening this end, Claire got engaged at Christmas so we will be having wedding planning at some point, she's said not till next year at earliest so gives me time to save up! Jill and the kid may be coming back from Gambia to live - so Acorn will have 4 fighting over his use - although we suspect Rhianna has a horse allergy now to go with the cat allergy so it may only be 3! shame cos shes been on em since tiny and loves it - she may be okay covered up as long as no skin contact -
anyway best get some work done, keep safe

we have had the farrier and all went smoothly - I am seriously impressed with our new farrier - I have been tunge in cheek a bit as he has tackled Acorns feet in a completely different way to the old one - we have no problems after each trim - hes now on 5 weekly as is Charlie - he took the toe off quite dramatically previous two trims - he explained it all to me - whys and where fors - hes very into remedial so holding my nerve I just let him do his job and put the trust in - wow the trim yesterday - no toe off - a trim roll and rasp and they look great - he obviously feels great hes up at thw hill today with Tess for a few days - and to see him springing down the road nearly made me cry - it like having him back before the lammi - hes not bee lame other than the injury and abcesses issues last summer - but hes obviously much more comfortable in his feet now - Charlies soles are recovering well - but he found the walk down for the vet this morning a bit iffy so we decided to swap him and Acorn over for a few days - left him in for the day - out for an hour in top paddock late afternoon and he was full of it - so hopefully swap over wednesday.

Acorn is out with Tess, after making the fence Acorn proof - he slipped under the rope twice within five mins of being put in so made sure he had a zap before leaving him, he was still there when we fed tonight - not sure in the morning - we will see, if hes not then a major rethink needed... I don,t want him on the ungrazed part - we open it up very slighly each day to manage weight closing a section up benind every few days.

Vet visit went well both fine, vet walked into the yard to find Acorn tied up in show stand mode and he commented on how well he was looking - very impressed - he asked if he could look at Charlies foot and said we must be pleased with the progress and how good he was looking as well - he was impressed by the do not feed titbits notice we have on their door - said it was obviously working - good job Tess is up at the field as she is in need of a diet - suspect all is not Coat! both her and Charlie have ben on the same pasture - she obviouly converts rubbish grass to fat better than he does !

so all in all very positive this end so far - just need to get the little man back upto the yard so that I can get him ready for Sunday - fingers crossed all stays well -

Great news re your farrier Lemme.
Since changing madam's her feet seem to look better but he is advising looking into shoes again but ones with a different fit to what her old farrier did. Once the ground hardens up as its swampieville at present.
She's out all the time and certainly seems better for it.

Fingers crossed for Silver, PFB. Last thing you need.
 
Trimmer thinks it is toxic laminitis with such a crazy onset. She had her feet done a week ago and we were saying how far she has come etc etc and then this?

It's bizarre, in last two years she has had massive diet changes, moved yards, new friends, skin diagnosis and steroids - all with mild footyness as the worst it got. Now everything is stable for a few months we have this?! It just makes no sense to me. She seems less shuffly, hopefully the bute has kicked in. Still refusing to move though. Hoping I can catch her lying down as then I could have a proper look at soles but no signs other than bruising in one foot last night.
 
any swelling on the worst leg? racing pulses? my gut is leaning with abcess which if under running with toxins could be inducing lammi - if swelling up the leg then couldbe infection going up - lets hope you can get a look at it - although in my experience with abcesses they tend to evade you until they burst or are found...........
 
Nope no swelling, just through the roof heat - but only in the hoof and bulbs - no higher. Its been a bit of a bizarre day.

Morning - She can't move, rocking back, can't eat from floor, restless and shifting weight.

Lunch - She is less restless, but sweating up all over and crest has gone hard but not visible. Moving a little better.

Tonight - ovine well - picking feet up to move, not rocking back, able to eat from floor, kicked out at me...though crest very swollen and hard now.

Very odd?! I can't look at feet as I wouldn't push it with her tonight. Very confused.
