laminitis now abscess

Poor both of you - take it easy you should feel better in a few days once the AB get into your system, have you put his boots back on or is it just the transitioning with him not having been on his barefeet for a while? might take a few days, just watch out for any bruising - suprising how hard this ground is.

Well got back last night and thought it strange couldn't see the little man up in his paddock from the House, anyway gets changed and said to OH was Acorn ok when you let him out, Red faced OH looked wide eyed and said, I knew there was something, he had forgotton to let him out:eek: I raced up to the yard and hes stood in his little shelter screaming his head off in protest, let him out and he was very stiff, poor little man I could have killed OH he was in bad books all last night! so I gave him some bute and let him have a little wander in his paddock , fed the other two and seperated a smaller area in the field, popped his boots on and put him out in the field near the others for a few hours, he seemed more settled and less stiff when I took him in. He was much happier this morning, took him down to the field (no frost) put one boot on his abcess foot and walked him down the road a bit tentative on the naked foot on the road but think it was more strange as obviously he was a little lop sided due to the boot - have taken the boot off in the field so left him pottering around the field bootless, hoping hes okay when I getback tonight, will pop his boot back on to take him up, figured if I can get him okay on the one foot then will be less stress when I try him with both off.
hes okay on a bit of road but its a 5 minute walk so not rushing it, need to get him sorted as we move fields at the end of next week and he will have a mile to walk morning and night, okay when hes fit, may need his boots on if he struggles will see.

Just read Debs other post, sounds as if shes got to the bottom of Vicky's behaviour issue, Moody Mare in the extreme -

Its probably just because he has been in his boots for so long Tracey, give his feet a rest and then do some walk outs on the grass with him and turn him out with his boots on, once you think hes okay then extend the time he is out without them are you feeling better?

Acorn was fine when I went for him tonight, he walked up the road back to the yard without his boot he was a bit steady at first but then got into his stride, will see how he is in the morning, if hes okay then I will walk him down without, any signs of not and the boot will go back on for the walk down.

Vicky posted to say Vicky has been in season most of the time which explained her behaviour (thats if my memory is working right) Vet is going to put her on something to sort her seasons out - nothing like a moody mare:rolleyes: abit like us with PMT (those where the days, long gone for me:))

anyway going to get some shut eye, worn out this week.
back in tomorrow, let me know how you both are

glad you are both feeling better, rain, I could do with a bit to soften ours but non in forcast when you need it! fields are rock hard and not much grass so Acorn is finding it a bit hard on his feet, I walked him down to the field without and he was in field until 2.00 without boots, I fitted his cub saddle and put his boots on and took him for a walk up the village for a change of scenery - only had him on his headcollar - big mistake - he decided feet don't hurt in boots can go where I want at high speed and if I put my head down and run Mum will be in trouble - litttle s**t!!! ended up in the middle of someones front lawn - all that grass with me on the end of the lead rope:o
well gathered myself and him, stern talking to and although on his toes on the way back he did as he was told. Decided he didn't want his tea tonight , tipped bucket up and then threw it at me. he eventually ate it about an hour later. went down to check him and he was a little bit sweaty but otherwise fine, running at the door cause he thought he was coming out, settled when his next door neighbour was brought in - Emmas coming for a little ride on him tomorrow so the bridle will definately be going on.
Will try and get some pic's depending on how he behaves.
anyway will pop back in tommorrow and see how you all are.

So love the picture in my head of Acorn heading off with you on the end of the rope... my friends pony did the exact thing last week and whilst I was busy wetting myself laughing at this 12hh pony carting her off, it all went very pear shaped as he went again this time pulling her over and dragging her on her belly whislt she tried in vail to hold on:eek: not pleasant!! Anyway, its a good sign he's feeling well;)

Like you, our ground is like concrete and the gateways to our fields are horrible. I think of our Lucy most days when I turn out as I know she would never have coped with it.

Poor, poor Bobs, He really doesn't have the best of times does he... hope that the dentist can come asap and sort him out, also, hope you are feeling a lot better now too Tracy x

Good news on the Vicky front, the regumate is doing its job and NO season:D Today she has been a total poppet, Decs caught her on his own and got her in (thats 3 days in a row now!!) as before she'd turn her back end on you, not fun for a little person, she was happy to be groomed with no teeth or feet action;) we went on an hours hack and she only called once and behaved impecably and THEN we went in the school and Decs very bravely rode her in walk and trot and she was perfect:) Lets hope with the help of the Regumate, the work on her neck & back and her bit issues we are now getting there, I did actually see the pony that we wanted today so I'm very happy:D

Catch up with you all tomorrow! x

Hey got there in the end then Debbie, typical Mare eh! Now you can all have some fun - will she have to keep on the Regumate then?
We had god awful storm today its wet the ground, standing water but its that hard its just starting to soak a way not sure it will make too much difference under foot but there is more forcast mid week for us. Acorn out today with his boots on as Emma came to ride him , have put some pics up - 2nd time on and he was as good as gold, we took her up to the yard and back on him on the road as he can be a bit of a pain on grass if hes in the mood so that will come when shes got used to him, he's a better size for her than Tess as you can see and it took some adjusting for her, finally got his cub saddle fitted , need a smaller girth with him losing the weight , he kept his boots on as he feels his foot without them still, it was a big hole!

anyway will catch up tomorrow, its about time you started to have some fun so pleased for you and Declan

Thanks Tracey, he is so good with her- think we have a lot of fun to come:)

Poor Bobs, hope you get his tooth sorted soon, can you see anything, worst would be if he got it compacted and started another abcess problem, you had just got him right, is he ok with feet still?

Its difficult with the sweating under the the leg, is it the elbows or the stifle area, unexplained sweating is usually an indication of pain, however it has been getting warm during the day, what sort of coat has she? Sounds as if she needs some TLC off her owners not just you - Lord I hate that when they buy an untouched youngster stick them in the field, haven't a clue, blame the horse and sell them on, gets me bloody angry! Potential owners should be vetted not just the horse.

anyway let us know how you get on

are you feeling better?

Acorn walked down the road without his boots this morning and is out in the field with the other two, much better now, having been putting the Naf hoof and sole on him and it seems to be doing the trick, have taken his boot down to the field so if he needs it tonight it can go on.

anyway back to work for me

Oh Bless him, an ulcer is better than an abcess would have thought, they usually sort themselves out in a few days and then hopefully no more Poo's!
How's his feet?
Acorn out again today without his boots, walking right but slow if you know what I mean sure he will be going down faster in a couple of days as his soles harden, closed the field down a little bit more today - 3 of them on it 2 full time but the grass is coming through now, I am sure he will be okay but rather safe than sorry eh!

hope everyone else is well, are you feeling better now Tracey?

Well your AB will only work if you take the full course so do as you are told!
Bobs needs his mum fit and well...... if he gets more forage in it should help with the poo situation, bless him hopefully a few day and he will be back to normal. You do right re the boots, if he's a little sorry for himself he may do more standing than moving.

Wow you are busy I am sure all this work will be worth it. As you say it will take a few days for Bobs bless him but great news re the feet, stillgot the boots on?

Dull hear as well this morning but still warm ( going to get colder though), Acorn out in the field, no boots worn today again, he's faster walking in on a night after being out all day than he is walking out but hes getting better each day, he even stood on the chalk stones talking to the Milkman this morning without thinking about it, so they must be hardening up now.

anyway best get some work done, pop in later Lx

Hi All,

Just caught up on posts, ouch for poor Bobs! Hope he was bright when you saw him this morn Tracey and well done on your course!!! Go girl!! Also, glad you feel better from nasty infection. I do often wonder how aliens, if ever they came to earth, would survice such a hostile environment!!

Loving the photo's of super-acorn and his hero rider with his boots on! Class!! And it's such a comfort to read his feet are toughening up. Bet those boots are worth every penny.

I missed bigmare's post on Vicky but OMG can mares hormones really get like that? Thought it was just women LOL! There is a stroppy mare at the farm and she gets oestress in her feed. Still headbutts you six feet sideways though. At least you were quick to identify it and get it sorted!! Hoorah you've got your pony back.

I got a job, not sure if you read my post in cafe. Thanks for listening to my worries throughout ordeal! I work Somerset & Dorset now so a change of scenery :). Malt and other boys ok together. He's still keeping to himself as Harv's is still protective of his old mate. May have to seperate as Seb needs grass and Harv's is enormous. I mean on the condition scale 0-5, harv's is probs a 7. No joke. Will take photo later.

Now that I'm keeping job, not sure I want to put M on loan/share. The lady is still interested but think I will change my mind. I feel bad after all the to-ing and fro-ing but that's what stress does to you!!!

Hey you, congrats:D I like to believe things have a way of working out, when one door opens etc etc - If you are not sure about putting M on loan/share then don't , it prob wouldn't work if you are only going into it half hearted, if you feel you can manage now go with your heart hun! Poor Harv, he can't be as bad as you are painting - naughty Mum - can't wait to see the pics!
anyway best get some work done, just popped in to see if any updates, and great to see you and good news we always welcome,
