The Winter Challenge, (motivation, confidence building, routine, fun)

I’ve fallen behind, I’ve been working all the hours of daylight and haven’t much fancied doing anything after dark. Maybe I’ll get time today around L&L coming to ride.

I am struggling as well. January is hibernation month isn't it

OMG yes yes definitely hibernation month. I am so piddled off with the weather up here. Not often I reach the end of my tether with it as I knew what I was getting into when we moved here ten years ago! But, I have been pushed to the limit lately. We normally get a three day storm if unlucky and then it comes good for a long while. Well we've had a 4 day affair with speeds of 60mph, getting 2 days of 38mph wind which isn't exactly calm - and then its red alert again on the weather app for the foreseeable! Argh. Horses and cats all cheesed off. Okay lol rant over. 🐴 🌻 😆

We actually had a day yesterday where it didn't rain all day. Back to normal rain now though.

I missed the pick up sticks challenge but I've been on a working equitation clinic today and we did the Bull which involves picking up a huge 'stick' so I'm going to count that.

AJ was quite grumpy today - putting his ears back at the other horses, a buck going into canter and just generally feeling a bit antsi. He did a huge wee when he got back on the wagon so maybe that's all it was, but I better book the physio and take him for yet another saddle check.

The wind is a bit like that up here at the moment. It goes calm (ish) for a bit and then back up to gale force. Grrrrr. Can't wait for summer (notice I didn't say spring as that's windy too!). Hope your rain goes soon.

He thought it was great fun!
Excuse the neighbours failing fence! And the ragwort, neighbour has loads and doesn’t deal with it so I get dozens of rosettes every year 😞

I just got round to doing the sticks because they had to eat the area first and it's been too wet.

So this is our quick set up.
If anyone wants to guess her response to the pile, I can send yours a complimentary packet of polos or non sugar clicker treats 😂
Her response to the line took me by surprise as well IMG_20260212_132320~2.jpg

I am liking this! Hehehe, it could be some kind of ancient stone age worshipping thing. Then again, it could be something for the cob to play about with!
She's more likely to investigate this set up this way. I am making use of what falls off the trees.

I think I am going to swap it around a bit too whenever anyone thinks of something.

This weeks challenge is

Sit with your horse with a camera and capture what happens.
I'm the field or stable wherever it's safer for you.

I thought of this since there are two in the paddock so it will be interesting to see if the boyfriend comes over to see what I am doing. What the cob decides to do and whether or not they can both share me.

To make the challenge harder, try not to touch them, unless you need to ask them to move their head off anything they are nibbling.

I did see any interesting video about not touching your horses face everytime they come to you. They don't always want you to touch them.
I can't speak for others on here but I do know that if the cob is in season you don't put your hand out to touch her face because they don't always like it.
I can't speak for others on here but I do know the cob doesn't like you touching her face when in season and will rear up or lunge at you. So if she does come over to interact I go for her shoulder or under her chin first. I don't know if she views her face and nose as being part of her fruity zones, but I steer clear.
