The Single Rancher Girl's Diary

Bixby and DJ have their own Diary and Minnie has her own super lengthy diary here is mine!

I am getting a divorce and with 3 horses to care for that can be pretty scary.
I gave up my career when I had my kids -who are now ages 5 and 8- so for many years is was financially dependent on my husband.
Six years or so ago I started a little business from home though and it has steadily grown.
Last year I also found a business partner in Germany that needed my assistance to get FDA approval in the USA for a medical device they were manufacturing. Once that happens I was promised sole distributorship for the entire US!

My main concern in divorce was always the kids and being able to provide for the horses.

This year I finally felt financially ready to take the plunge.
We have started divorce proceedings.

In the decree my ex is asking for truck and trailer and I am left with a 13 year old sedan. And once I pay for all the expenses there won't be much left.
But I will get to keep the horses and that is all that matters.

In fact I even bought his horse from him yesterday for a dollar. :) Bixby will stay here with us.

Today was a super happy day for me.

I had a rancher come by to see if he can deliver hay to me and it turns out that for the same price I would pay at the feedstore he will deliver it and stack it in the barn!
I don't need a man. And I don't need a truck! I CAN DO THIS!

My first delivery will arrive here Monday.

After 1 year of coordinating lab testing and FDA regulations I also just heard from our reviewer that they are ready to clear the medical device for sale in the US.
Based on my own little business I could have made it but just barely scraped by. This news means that financially it will be a lot less iffy. What a relief!

So right now everything is looking good.

Two major factors could still screw things up:
OH decides that he won't let me buy the house. Right now he is okay with it but he changes his moods so much. If I need to move to a new place it will be tough to find anything as well suited as this and still be able to afford it.

Some freak problem pops up with the FDA between today and next week and they don't issue clearance.

So wish me luck girls! I am looking forward to my single rancher girl days :)

Echo C's "all the luck in the world". Great phrase and sounds like just what's due to you. I am impressed - you have thought things through and sound really organised. It's well past 6pm here, so I'll raise a glass to your strength and success and a good life as a single rancher girl!

Best of luck! My sister is in the middle of a divorce and needless to say, it's never easy. That's without chucking 4 horses into the mix! Looking forward to reading about your adventures.

Do you know Karin, I was thinking about you just this morning and wondering how everything was going. Divorce is scary but liberating. I am so glad to hear from you and I will keep my fingers crossed that the path is smooth.

I'll go on thinking of you!

It is a massive relief I found. When you make the decision, and get rid of them. I will never forget the sheer feeling of happiness the first week after mine left. My small 18 month old son was asleep in the kingsize bed with me, and I was watching tele - Sex in the City actually, whilst in sleepy Devon!

I think you will be very happy and life will be good. You have your children and your horses, and if you can keep everything as amicable as possible, it makes divorce much easier.

Lincolnshire,wheres the hills?
I left my partner because I was so unhappy.... 10 years on I am with a man I really love and I am extremely happy with.. I have never regretted leaving once... I love my children and know they are happy because me and the Ex stayed friends.. and both wanted the best for our children .

You will be fine Karin :) and fingers crossed for your new business :)

Thanks girls!

I painted the worn bits on the barn today. I need to pace myself now... if the place starts looking to good he may think it might be better to sell it to a buyer rather than me...

I've not got anything to add to what has already been said but I wanted to say that I am so happy to read that you are so positive about the whole thing. I read the word divorce but that saw all the excitement about your business and I am so happy for you (and, in my experience, it isn't often you can say that when someone gets a divorce). I'm sure there will be ups and downs but you will definitely get through it all. Best of luck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and can't wait to hear about your new life :D

I got the notification today that the medical device from the German manufacturer has been approved by the FDA for sale in the US!
It's exciting (I've worked for a year on this!) and scary... I will be sole distributor for the whole United States. :)
But the upfront cost are significant. I am debt free right now. But I will have to take a loan to get started. Even just the product liability insurance is $10,000 upfront. At the same time I have only 3 months from now to make enough sales to erase half of that debt so that I can qualify for the mortgage of the house in my name...
wish me luck girls!
