Heatwaves, and the next one

I feel sorry for all you guys south too. It has just warmed up here today - earlier it was hoodie weather. Now t shirt weather. Well of course it would be knowing I had 30 bales of straw to move lol
And the horse flies are back out in full force.
But the heat is nothing like you have to cope with - our weather is saying its 13 degrees. There is no wind which makes it feel hotter.

Yep definitely hoodie weather this morning. Last night when I was saying goodnight to the horses mr t and me were cold. He had his old Barbour on (and its really thick!!!).
But the sun is out now and its a lovely evening - just right for thinner clothing again.
 
What do you look at to get your forecast as the apps all day different things for us.
I did hear it was ten days but not as hot as last time.
It's been okay today for me, but only because I had access to shade and a breeze.
 
I've got Rain Alarm, Meteored, Foreca & Flowx apps, plus a few other weather links that go direct into my calendar app.

Share the fuel for the trip up! The days i can cope with. The nights are hideous.

I think they said the nights weren't going to be as warm as last time. So our bodies will get that release that we need to cool down.
 
@Tir I'm too hot in the day too, mornings aren't quite as bad but afternoons are horrid. I daren't wear shorts at the yard either because I end up covered in bites and rashes.
 
I'm working from home in my tack room/office in a bikini. We've just got back from a fortnight in Skiathos where the temperatures were similar but humidity probably a lot lower. Plus we could dip in the sea to cool down and had air con on at night (I had a blanket on my half of the bed because OH likes it a lot colder than I do 🤣 )

I can cope with the heat but my grass can't. We got back from holiday to find everything burnt to a crisp. I really shouldn't have to put hay out at the beginning of July but I am. Got a round bale coming today or tomorrow to put straight in the field. I'm worried about the hay situation again, hope it's not as bad as it was here last winter.
 
My two are on long grass which still has some greenery in it. Luckily they've got natural shade on both sides as the sun moves round.
I think it's an east north east breeze tomorrow which should help.

Though we are suddenly jumping up by 8 degrees in comparison to today. So that's going to really notice isn't it.
 
Well I just got back from the toon and it is 20 degrees there! Scorchin! Compared to out here in the sticks. Not complaining though, better for the neds and for me.

I hope you don't struggle for hay. You are Yorkshire way? There's always Cravenbale to fall back on, its not cheap but its really nice stuff and they do several varieties. The one I used to feed our gang on was more like hay than haylege.
 
At my first yard they hosed the livery horses all the time and the horses regarded it as routine.

The hotter Luka is, the more of a shock the cold water will be. My experience of hosing Maisie after riding her on very hot summer evenings is that the cold water is a bit of a shock to the horse and, the hotter the horse, the more of a shock the cold water is. I used to start by using my hand to rub the water onto her and when she was fairly damp, then using the hose.
When I started to ride, I was kitted out with grooming brushes which included a Stubben water brush. I have rarely used this brush but always used water on a softer brush or on my fingers, for instance to remove the sweaty girth marks after a summer hack.
 
Rubbish Skib! When it was 39c the other week he was perfectly happy to stand under the hose for as long as I or my friend wanted, today he simply didn't think he was hot enough to want hosing and since his opinions are factored innto his managment he's quite willing to make them known. It's why his sweaty areas are normally washed off with a bucket of body wash, it's simply not worth making an issue out of thing when there's no need. Will you never understand that horses are individuals just as much as humans are?
 
I have a piece of paper to convert it to F because a high number makes more sense to me than it being in the twenties and thirties.
I feel the same about juniors being in cms, it sounds like a decent height of its 2'11. I understand that. But cms just sounds like something I could step over!!

The news keeps changing though. I think where we are it's 3 days over 31. And possibly a normal summer for the rest
But I keep hearing some places it's five or ten days of this heat.
I hope the night gives us chance to cool down.

But you are younger than me and I was taught in cms and metres?! But I have to admit, I can "imagine" an inch much easier than cm's. In fact, I buy tops based on inches rather than cm's. Weird isn't it.
