2025 Hacking and Inhand Thread

Harmony went to Bowmont forest today for her half hour walk. She was going really well on the firmer tracks but on the softer ones her breathing was worse and I got off at 20 minutes. She was very well mannered as some trees had come down and we have to do a bit of orienteering included going between trees where Buddy would have sensed a knee capping opportunity.

When she was being led, she was friskier and walking better. When she came off the lorry, she coughed.

Just keeping a diary and in the new year see what her vet suggests we do but keep her ticking over for the moment20251228_102132.jpg20251228_102121.jpg

Lovely colour saddle cloth there.

Well, can't believe I'm typing this lol another winter jaunt - can't feel my hands but who cares about that?! Hehehee. Making the most of it as I feel our weather may not hold much longer and the gales will return. 😍 🐴

Another hack round the village, clockwise today (it was anti clockwise yesterday - variety is the spice of life and all that). I think the jogging is getting better but also he managed to self regulate after he got excited by a few things happening together - normally he would have stayed in high alert state but today he came back down to earth. And he's really very brave, we had to go through traffic light with lots of temporary signs on one side of the road and barriers etc surrounding the hole on the other side and he barely looked and didn't hesitate in the slightest.

I don’t want to get too excited (or I'll probably have a terrible bumpy ride tomorrow), but maybe he is growing up??

Definition of a hack 😂

I got mine out of the paddock and led her down to the pen, her tail was full of stuff and that needed doing. Led her back.
I want to be doing that daily as can hop on and ride back to the paddock sometimes then hopefully I am in a routine to take her out as well.

I am glad I hopped on today as it looks like our weather is definitely on the turn. I think we are due a weeny bit of snow next weekend but it can all change can't it.
Lovely girly she does make me laugh though. We were going to go in the opposite direction and she had other ideas. I know I shouldn't let her lead but I do. Hahahaa. She was on auto-get-back-fast-as-poss mode. She knew I had a polo or two for her! Love my new jodh boots too - they feel nice and secure, I do like Ariat things.

30 minutes hack at harestanes visitor centre, round the edge of a big field, along the road and back, into the retail area where she inspected the Couperie ice cream take away. they have clear domes over outdoor tables and chairs similar to this, but now done up with fairy lights1767094998189.png

I think that today's pootle might be the last of the year as I am pretty sure tomorrow is very windy and gale force at times. OMG it was sooooo cold today though, blimey. I was numb! Good job I managed to find a coat to pop over the bp. I don't normally need one, I wear a thin base layer or jumper and the bp over the top keeps me warm but not today. Anyway, dug out a coat that is a size too big and it fitted over the top grand. I looked like a black coloured Michelin man but who cares! Hahahaa.

Well that's my riding done for this year. On Christmas Day I gave Harvey his haynet (with hay in), but then added his Christmas present of haylage on the the floor. Needless to say the net didn't get touched. I had quick hack round in the sun with YO. Boxing day was sunny too. As I left on my hack I met another livery coming back early , something had happened to her horse to wind him up. I invited her to tag along with me and we had a nice hour out in the sun. Saturday and Sunday were colder and greyer and Harvey and I went for canter on the bridleway each day.

Harvey trying to pinch my lunch (again!)

We've had a heavy frost, so it's none going out today but I will give her feathers a good brush and think of something for the motivation thread.

We have the gales again. So sadly nothing in hand as its so darn cold out there and you can't stand up at one end of the yard. And its set to get worse but I'm not complaining, Christmas itself was beautiful weather and I've been so lucky to get so many little plods in.

Still frozen solid and slippery going to walk dogs and then see if can at least get Harmony out for a walk in hand. Just done 20 haynets...

30 minutes in hand, rather cold, one very bad bit of ice we had to avoid otherwise roads safe. walked out well, then had to call out horsebox assist!
