2025 Hacking and Inhand Thread

Out for an hour but bit curates egg. Harmony started off really nicely walking with purpose nice head carriage, very bright. Introduced a little trot after 15 minutes walk and again the elevated breathing. We did 3 small trots then walked but her breathing was still elevated so turned back.

She was a bit brighter on the wawy back and when we got to the junction to go home, she took off and wanted to trot up the steep hill. Normally I would not allow her to do that but let her to see how she coped, got off halfway up the hill as she was really puffing. She was still puffing when we got home and normally her breathing would be normal before then and she hasn't been doing it in hand or at the hydro. Not so concerned about puffing going up hill though I can walk it with her and not be puffing but it's the elevated breathing at walk that concerned me today, Going to get vet out to see if we can see what's up.

Check out the local decorations. I will keep my eyes open for various ones.
She didn't take any notice of them now, so probably won't get a being nosey photo

A little potter today, but sooooo muddy at our field gate. Was going to take her in the school, but ever since we got the drain fixed at the back of our house and stopped the farmers water supply from flooding our property now the darn path to the arena is flooding up - squelchy does not cover it. So I opted for the easy field - just going to have to either pay and get a soakaway done on that path or suck it up and walk her through it to get to the school. Hmm. Soakaway means shelling out more money and its going to churn things up whilst it gets done. Argh. Oh well, nice potter anyway, no spin dry cycle today lol Good girl Fuzzy! 🐴 :D

It was therapeutic to walk Harmony out today after mum's death yesterday. It was very windy but she did well, did some in hand trotting to test her breathing. Horses in the field we passed were looning around so I had a large bay balloon to hold onto. She did a lot of walk halt stand transitions till her feet were under control and going at my pace. Saw the little exmoor pony lying down, looked odd, stopped at house to ask, sadly he died yesterday and waiting for burial. His exmoor pal alone now.

Glad you had a walk out with her. That is sad about the exmoor pony. Wonder if his pal will get company eventually? Hope you are doing okay anyway, what time you've had with your mum passing and one of your cats.xx
 
Managed to get her out for a brief lunge as the workman aren't working today.
That tractor wheel ditch has potential for next time round.

We've not got the hacking buddy now, he's just a field pal. So it's back to solo again.

we went away last night for our wedding anniversary but the place was awful...glad to be home

I seem to be a bit out of date. Generally I've been working around the weather and hacking locally. I did have a nice trip out though to hack with my friend C. We had a nice hack but did have to turn back when we met some unfriendly looking bullocks on a bridleway. We are still exploring around her new yard - its much nicer for me to visit as there is somewhere for me to park - previously I had to park and tack up in the road.

Harvey being not impressed because his tea hasn't arrived yet!

A small potter yesterday and my fear of Mr Gillies the pheasant flying out from the undergrowth is totally unfounded whilst on her! He did just that yesterday and Mr T jumped a mile but she didn't even break stride or look up - good girl! It was very cold and fresh though, so only a short one. Who am I kidding lol we only ever do short but its happy and enjoyable.

They've back filled and gone. Tarmac going in tomorrow, so probably another day she can't get out.

They did leave me a nice present. They said they would give me a board so the gateway will be fab to use now 😂 😂
It's not overly muddy but that steep hill is hard work.

55 minutes walk and a bit of trot, a bit breathless coming up the hill and afterwards. Going to hire the all weather gallop at the hydro so can do some faster work on a better surface.

A lovely little winter sun pootle today for us - she was so good, its been almost a week since our last potter around. Soon as I got off and untacked her down she went to roll. She was adding to her mud beauty treatment of course!!! I only brush where the saddle goes - she is far too clarted. Just brushed Storm when I got back and she's shedding already.
