2025 Hacking and Inhand Thread

Harmony did 1 1/2 hour walk covering around 5 miles. She is still over breathing. It's very wierd vet will come out in new year and we will try to figure out what's up.

35 minutes walk, breathing still not right but walking nicely. Wonder if she has a virus as wasn't eating up as quickly and feels a bit dull lost her sparkle. Bit edgy anxious. Just not right.

Yay - we've all made it past the shortest day! Thursday here was horrid, so no riding for me. Then 3 days of dodging rain again, so Harvey and I just went to stretch his legs on the bridleway, and I sneaked off to buy him a Christmas prezzie. (I must be going soft - he's never got one before!)

She did 30 minutes hydro today and video of it sent to vet. She was flaring nostrils from the beginning but managed to work really well. Agreed that best to keep her in ridden work, but 30 minutes only and try to do flat routes. Vet will come out in the new year and assess her at hydro as there is a large outdoor school and racehorse gallops so vet can see her however wanted.

Got out for a leg stretch.
It's dried up really well considering. She's unfit now so will need to gradually build that back up.
I usually get her out three days a week in the winter but we had lost our way and mojo.

Sadly her mum died today aged 33 which I feel it's a great age for a cob.
It's nice to still be in touch with her breeder all these years on.

A lovely sunny potter about today, Fuzzy was feeling very obliging, no dog-shaking (get off mum vibes), just nice and jaunty. Or maybe she knew there were extra ginger biscuits!

Aw rest in peace cobs mum. 33 is a fab age - about same as Chloe was.

Took Harmony out in hand for 20 minutes as she worked really hard at hydro yesterday. While her breathing was still a bit elevated, she was much brighter in herself and striding out very fast could hardly keep up with her. When turned out she went bombing up the field bucking and kicking, then came back down the hill to have a drink and repeated the gallop. Perhaps she has turned the corner, maybe a virus? Who knows.

Hopefully it was a virus - I think there might be quite a few around, even amongst the animals. Rosyrue the cat had one the other week. I was convinced that she had something sinister. Then thought it was something stuck. Showed a video of her to the vet and she gave me decongestant and Loxi. After a couple of days she seemed much brighter and better and touch wood now is fine. She was very quiet though, I was worried.

Boxed to local riding route, hacked at walk 30 minutes did well, let me get on first try, bit frisky at first but well mannered and met lots of folks walking dogs. Loaded well, came home had hot mash then cantered up field. Breathing was much better than last Saturday but coughed once going up the field.20251226_100252[1].jpg

This has to be a world record for festive riding lol (for me anyway!).
Another gorgeous little potter about today - the sun is beautiful, I felt on top of the world. She gets through the mud like a little tank and then she is so good really, I still can't believe my good fortune in finding her. 🐴 😍

We have ice for the first time this winter, so nothing happening this end today.
No idea why I really do photograph everything, but some of you may not know what ice looks like taken out of a water bucket 😆 😂 😆

We also had ice first thing but it soon disappeared and I actually rode for the first time in yonks. Went in the field to test the controls first, all seemed to be working so we had a stroll round the village. At least, it started as a stroll. My new year's resolution is going to be to stop the silly jogging.

Forgot the foot challenge, I was so excited about finally coming out of Christmas riding retirement.

I love the rest the controls comment first. Mine can have days like that.
I wormed her today and she was letting me know that she may well bite me in a second. It's not often she really really means it when the ears dissolve. But she was done after the facial expression decided it didn't need to be a Grinch 😂
