And we’re there...

Watching them still has me fascinated, Jess is clear top dog and Niko doesn’t vaguely push his luck with her, he will chase Hank off food/hay but rarely Dan. Hank will chase Dan off, but Dan will creep in on either Niko or Jess while they’re eating with very little repercussion. Hank won’t go near Niko while he’s got a bucket, not even to pass him to get to his food yet will creep on Jess.

I’m loving having the camera still, I often watch them late evening and early hours ? Niko sleeps a lot, normally I see him down at least once in the day and again at night, normally one of the little boys is down with him and the others are standing guard

These 2 are best buds, peas in a pod, partners in crime ?

How come they aren't attacking the carrots?!

Argh, the play looks to have got a bit too much today

it looks like Niko got a kick in the teeth, not that he seemed vaguely bothered! (Not sore and eating well) I sent pics to my vet and she wants me to check if the top tooth is wobbly (worried that’s an adult tooth any may be fractured), which will be interesting in the morning! If it is, it’s a visit, if not it should heal on its own. I’ve enlisted help from a friend to check it properly as I don’t have enough hands to hold him, open his lips and grab the tooth to check on my own.

Phew, a better check with help and it doesn’t look like any lasting damage, just the top caps prematurely removed and the bottom ones loose. I’ll keep an eye on it and the vet will check properly in a couple of weeks when he has his booster jab. He was dragging Hank around by his neck again this morning and let me have a good old poke around so obviously not sore from it!

I spoke too soon, Niko really kicked Dan last night, it was a full force purposeful kick too 😠 got him right on the point of his bum, thankfully not in the already dodgy hip.
I get it they will protect their bucket but he gave no warning and dan had been stood there for a good five plus minutes quietly and was facing away from Niko, towards me as I stand with Jess every evening so she doesn’t pinch Niko’s dinner.
The evening prior Niko had been chasing the boys off the hay aggressively (biting and flat out chase) too, I hope he’s just crotchety in the cold/snow and it isn’t a terrible two’s phase coming on.

Poor little Dan, I hope he's ok. Arnica for the little guy.

Charlie is very grumpy at the moment, putting his ears back at me and swinging his bum to me if I come near his food. He gets a good shouting at but I am sure it's because he is hungry all the time. I won't say cold, because he seems to be very weather proof, but definitely hungry!

Mr Zi is being a grumpy devil at the moment too. Every time I go near him with his food or to remove his dish he seems to either flatten his ears or swing his bum around - and he's got no excuse because he's 15 and not 5! I think it's the weather as he's a softy and isn't used to snow.

This guy is just super, figured I’d introduce the pad and surcingle and he was a rock star, didn’t flinch (though he’s always been rugged so that helps), tried to chew the surcingle a bit but 5 minutes start to finish

With Hanks help of course!
Then I thought I’d drag a log out and climb up and see what he thought, he obviously tried to eat it at first 🤣 but stood next to it while I climbed up and down, moved up to and backed away with me stood on it and not vaguely fussed when I leant over (feet still firmly on the log) to give him scratches the opposite side

Then 2 minutes of walk on the lunge, with some lovely changes of direction. I didn’t take him out for a walk, figured I’d just let his brain process everything.

Monkey was not his usual superstardomness today, I took him and Jess out for a walk around the block and apparently that was all the excuse he needed to spook at nothing and trip over my feet in an effort to hide behind Jess, repeatedly! Muppet. Thankfully he did get his life in order before we got home and we even managed a little trot.

Oh gosh he is doing well. I'm trying to get Charlie to trot on the lead at the moment, it's really hard, though he'll happily offer me a beautiful trot free schooling

Niko was good as gold this morning for mane and tail spraying/brushing, feet picking and trying new rugs on but he wasn’t keen to go out for a walk this afternoon.
He tried planting (even before we left the field), turning for home, walking on top of me, trotting off, generally doing anything other than the 10 minute quiet walk
planned, by the 3rd lap of the block he gave up and walked the whole lap like the good boy I’m used to! Silly sod, I think he’ll be doing a bit more frequent practicing for a few weeks.
