2017 Hacking/ Riding Challenge.... Add your photos too

When we were back at the trailer loading up, I had put my stuff in the back of the pickup and laid my keys with my saddle , forgotten, and shut the tailgates. CLick. The central locking went and locked me out of the car :( So we were completely stranded, phoned hubby and he had to come all the way down there with spare keys :( he was not amused!
If you unlock the car with a fob and not the actual key, you can usually do it over the phone with a spare. Phone hubby, get him to press the button on the spare next to his phone whilst you hold your phone next to the car. This usually works. Thankfully I have never needed to do this but it certainly worked when we tried it with the spare fob. I was amazed! And it's useful to know.

Had a nice play over jmups with my grazing buddy on Saturday, she did a great round and my boy behaved too, even jumping a 3D box jump super easily despite me basically telling him to refuse haha. I jumped it more confidently after that though! Then I took Mads for a ride and we worked on serpintines and circles as every time I tried to turn she would respond by trying to canter, whether we were in walk or trot! So we did quite a few until we could walk calmly and trot calmly! Crazy out of work pony!
Sunday I took Aus to the track and we did some fitness work.

Running total:
Aus: 261.25hrs
Mads: 16hrs

Saturday was another morning looking at Horseboxes. In the afternoon a group of us accompanied one of the liveries on her first hack on her new pony. All went well until we got back to the yard where the YOs son on his bike spooked the pony and the poor girl ended up on the floor. No real harm done, and suffice to say it won't be happening again!

On Sunday I help my friend with her driving - our final practice before driving camp next weekend. Harvey and I had a nice relaxed hack around in the afternoon. No photos this weekend :(

Hope she is ok That can put a big scare into you!!:(:(:(

My first ride on my pony as a kid the farm owner Mr Pitman smacked Tony on the butt and he took off:eek::eek:
I was not ready for him to do something like that and Tony took off out of the ring!!! And towards the back of the barn with a low hanging branch on a tree
I grabbed the branch and off he kept going into the barn.
It was several weeks and I was not riding him -- he was the best groomed
cleanest pony there though:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Then one day I guess Mr Pitman noticed I was not riding and told me one morning. I need someone to get on "Frisby" and exercise him.
FRISBY WAS THE QUIETEST PONY ON THE FARM HE ****NEVER***
NEEDED EXERCISE he was the pony you put beginners on to go on a trail ride....
And guess that's what I needed after that scare with Tony.
That day I was FINALLY riding my pony!!!

Haven't posted here for a couple of weeks!

On 07/05 I did about 7km - my sports tracker app stopped tracking the distance AGAIN. I know the route so estimated the distance. It was mostly in walk as my other half came with me on foot. We were out for 1 hr 45 mins.

On 11/05 I had an hour's lesson. It was my first lesson on my share and it was really beneficial, I'm learning more about what makes him tick.

On 14/05 I hacked out with another lady from the yard on a new route. Lots of roadwork and narrow bridleways. It was lovely and my horse was good as gold but I'm not a massive fan of roadwork so prob wouldn't do that route again. We were out for 2 1/2 hours and travelled 15.25km, which is the furthest I've been!

Totals are now: 63.65km in 11hrs 35mins plus 1 hour of schooling.

Today I'm using a voucher somebody bought me to go riding in Richmond Park for a couple of hours - looking forward to it!

Had a really busy few weeks, sorry I've not been on. Took Toffee in jumping paddock last week and popped some little X poles and the very low barrels and he cleared every one, fab pony. He then had a day off and then spent 3 days riding in the menage as it poured down and I was concerned about slipping. He was good for the most part.

Rode in the rain tonight with @Olivia C and Toffee was a swine. Nearly smashed my knee off the gate post today b trying to run through the gate. He got absolutely rollocked for that one. He did canter beautifully though. I had a little ride of her pony at the end. Well, her loan pony. :)

Awesome am ride yesterday til we had an Easyboot Glove malfunction:(.

Virgina and I went out early because it was going to get in the high 80's
With all the rain we have had the trails have nonstop multiple gigantic puddles.
I don't mind I love the sound of a horse going thru puddles,
She was showing me a different trail that I had not been on
It was more of a true trail than a lot of the roadway like trails in the forest.
It was soooooooooooo lovely dirt bikes etc do go out there whey they should not
and there were prolonged channels of a several hundred foot long puddles
because a lot of the trail was a lot lower than the side but it was so much fun.
There was a water crossing flowing water but it was quite pretty and had a nice firm
sandy bottom so no sinking - some of the water crossings around here can be really mucky
it was surprising with all the rain how nice this was and with all the rain it would be at its
worse now
Sadly a while into the ride one of the boot parts of a front easyboot glove came off his foot
and when I took off the gaiter to put it back on one of the attchement screws came off
on the side of the gaiter so I could not put it back on and had to take the other
front one off:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
So we had to turn around and go back. I had booted him up all 4 feet easyboot gloves on front
and easyboot trails on the back and the ride was so much nicer with him booted all 4
so I was so bummed when we could not keep going.
I do have 4 easyboot gloves but he's getting trimmed Friday and he's got a bit of flare in back so
no way could I put gloves all the way around.

The ride was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo NICE.
I CANT WAIT TO GO BACK TO THAT TRAIL AND CONTINUE FURTHER;);):):):D:D

Next ride I am going to just in case bring an xtra easboot glove with me.
I called and am getting a screw set sent to me.

The temps went to 88f yesterday ugh and today at 5am it was already 72f which is above what the high temp for the day should be it will go to 93f today but then back to more normal temp
for at least the next week;):)

Its very nice to ride with Virginia and Tobias. Sonny and Tobias get along super.

HMMM wonder what they are discussing???

Lots of awesome puddles

This was such an nice trail. It reminds me of the trails I rode in parks
at the old house. (but woo hoo I don't have to put a foot in the trailer
to go to this one;))
IMG_1212.JPG

This is the water crossing The flowing water is up near Virginia and Tobias
Its hard to tell from the photo but it was very pretty.

IMG_1222.JPG

Sonny was very happy to nibble after.
That little spot by Virginias house is so pretty with the trees and pond
and the lovely stone foundation on her house.
She has many lovely lovey spots!!

She has a lovely country setting for guests to enjoy.

It's 93f ugh it's hot no riding for sure
Sitting in the shade near Virginia's little cottage in the stoop.
Sonny is eating grass in same spot
As yesterday
I'm trying to build up his time eating grass

Funny how that's it's sooooooo hot
As much as I hate when it's really
Windy..... I wish at the moment it was
A lot more windy:rolleyes:

Nice double cavaletti sesson with Sonny yesterday.
The grass has gotten a bit tall and lush in the little cavaletti round pen.

Played with Sonny then let him have some grass then after he had the amount of time I have worked him
up to eating grass we had another cavaletti session.
He was such a good boy and very responsive even with the lush grass and clover in there;).

I walked him back over to Virginias and was talking to Virginia and a prior boarder who had lost her horse but thinks she has now
found another one.
Sonny got lots of compliments on being hansome and how well he just stood and hung out with us:);):D.

He stood right there and just dozed off.:);):D

He is such a good boy!!!;)

This morning reminded me how far I how come hacking nerve wise! Went for a lovely 2 hour solo hack this morning.

About a third of the way you have to go under a railway bridge which is usually fine, my share is brilliant with trains. However they have been doing some work on the bridge and so there were signs and orange fencing everywhere. He took one look and glued to the spot snorting. I jumped off and lead him past it all and he followed me no problem, let him have a sniff of all the fencing.

Got back on and continued the hack and on the way back I even stayed on board and just rode him confidently past it all, he had a good look but otherwise was fine. I know a few months back I would of just turned around and not bothered even attempting to go past it.

38hours 30 mins

And a pic :) 18620571_10158714008110156_224468509084623275_o.jpg

Gorgeous day at the farm 20 mins on Melody she was lovely and super well behaved. She had already given Frankie a ride ( she has been learning steering and position ) its her 3rd ride on Melody and she is doing great from a very un confident on her first ride on the lead rein to off the lead in less than 1 hour 20 mins worth of riding in total..... Melody is showing her how safe some ponies can be to someone who has lost there confidence in a fall.

She is loving helping with the ponies and riding in a safe un pressured way.

Saturday I had a dressage lesson then had to rush away for hubbys birthday so didn't get to rid eMads. Then Sunday I had a jump show and took my friend, she was entered in the small classes and I the bigger classes which meant we got up early to be there for the first class and stayed the entire day for me to do the last classes! So got home in the dark (as it was an hours drive) so didn't get to ride Mads all weekend :(

Running total:
Aus: 263.5hrs
Mads: 16hrs

On Tuesday I went out for a hack in Richmond Park with one of the stables based there. It was GORGEOUS. It was the only day of nice weather all week, and it was just an incredibly peaceful ride with a lovely member of staff. The horse I rode had a little moment and kicked out at the instructor's horse, which is something I've never experienced before, so I was really pleased that I sat that with no issues and it didn't sap my confidence - a year or so ago I wouldn't have wanted to continue whereas I pretty much just brushed it off. Also got in some canters which was nice. This horse had a much smaller stride than my share and I found it much easier! We covered 5.67km in 1 hour.

Yesterday was share day, did a little bit of schooling and then out onto the downs for a solo hack. It was all very uneventful really, weather was fab again. I wanted to do a new route which I'd walked earlier in the week, but there were people flying big scary kites right next to the path, so I decided not to push my luck as I know he hates kites! all in all another pleasant ride. The ground was too hard and it was too busy for any canters though, which is disappointing as I really wanted to get some in! We covered 7.47km in 1 hour 5 mins.

Totals: 76.79km in 13hrs 40mins plus 1 hour 15 mins of schooling.
