Our Welsh D was a big dafty, could plod or b'doing, he was very rider oriented. If you were nervous he'd be kind, then scare folk ridged when I rode him!

he was a bit of a wuss though, he got colic once and we all thought he was dieing, not good with pain, bit of a big girl's blouse, but a dear boy.
 
My loan pony is apparently a registered welsh section D, but having looked up her studname, it's a new forest stud? Her owner tells me she is registered with the welsh cob society and has the papers and the like. I'm very confused :p

She is very opinionated ('what do you mean we're not going back into the yard?' cue a temper tantrum) but she is also chestnut. What's that thing about chestnut mares? :rolleyes: She has a lovely jump, but if the rider's not confident about it she won't jump it. I've learnt that the hard way :rolleyes: She loves to go for a gallop and hates going round in circles in the school!

OMG she is almost the spitting image of the Arab x Welsh I used to own called Sadiq:D:D He was probably just slightly chunkier.

Why couldn't there be a stud in the New Forest breeding Welsh Sec D's????
 
I'm not sure if it's welsh D's I don't like or welsh D owners ;)

I've only closely known 2 full D's and both of them were a nightmare. You couldn't trust them an inch. I wouldn't have tolerated that kind of behaviour in any horse - they simply had no manners whatsoever and were only marginally better with their owners handling them.

It was excused though, because they were section D's :rolleyes:

Until owners stop using breed as an excuse for bad behaviour, their reputation won't improve. I'm sure they work better when treated in certain ways and they will always generally be drama queens, but there is something very wrong when the kind of behaviour they often display is seemingly so acceptable because of the breed they are.

Hehe :) The jumping pictures were taken at the beginning of August, and the yawny one and standing one even before then. I need some new ones!

Noo, I meant that I have looked up the studname, and it apparently breeds new forests, not welsh cobs :) Her registered name is Greendene Red Rosina :)

But I do agree breed should have no influence or make bad manners any more acceptable:D
 
I have 2 welsh D's They are the opposite of each other!
Both have good manners and i treat them like any other breed. Ones just a nutter to ride and the others a dope on a rope!
 
My Welsh D mare is very much like my anglo arab, as sensitive and loyal and trusting as he is. But just not as sharp, you can get away with more on her. I backed her in under 15 minutes, from saddle to walking on, and she didnt bat an eyelid. However she doesn't like me leaving her alone and will fret and become very arab like. I do love her and wouldnt swap her for the world :)

Ditto, I have 2 sec D mares, the first I bought 9 years ago as a VERY green 6yr old, and the second I bought last year at 15yrs old.

Both are safe as houses, I can leave them for months, get on, and hack out. The newest one wasn't ridden for 12 months (thought she was infoal) and as soon as she was certified empty, on I got, not a flinch, nothing.

Some horses 'have' to be ridden several times a week, not my welshies, I thoroughly enjoy them and it's not a chore having them as I ride as and when I please.

Missy, now 15 is in foal for next year, to the same stallion as Teabiscuit used, Derwen Trot On (thanks for sharing the pic, of all the foals I've seen this year, they've all been stamped with the dams colouring, so here's hoping for a black one):D

Exactly. Owners who can't be bothered putting the time and effort into getting some decent manners out of their horses and use breed as an excuse.

People who do that don't really get the breed a good name. Makes life a lot more difficult for those who do who have to try to convince everyone that section D's aren't all like that.
