In better news, on Wednesday I was fitted and programmed up with a pair of lovely, neat NHS hearing aids yesterday! My brain has gone into overdrive and is throwing every single sound at me at the moment, like the rustling of my clothes as I walk, etc. I'm assured that as my brain re-learns, it will start to filter out all the "white noise" that I don't really need, but they're quite a revelation for me. You don't realise what you can't hear, until you can again! I have now ditched subtitles and reduced the volume on the TV, much to Dom's delight šŸ˜‚ When I took them out, before my bath/bed, suddenly the world was muted again, which I suppose isn't a terrible thing at bedtime anyway.

Today is part two.... I have been long-sighted for years and have needed glasses for reading. But now my distance vision has "age-related deterioration" so I am going to transition to varifocals, which will be worn permanently - and I'm told do take a bit of getting used to.

Ain't getting old just dandy!!!? šŸ™„

Getting old is no fun. Ive had to start walking with a stick in the fields to help keep me upright. Im already in lots of pain with my hip and walking out in the fields up and down the banks everyday its taking its toll. Ive gone down on the slippery grass several times. Which usually results in stains and sprains. I dont bounce like i use to thats for sure.

Varifocals are brilliant. But hard to see ones feet. As reading lens is lowest. Take care on rough ground.

Thanks. Has them fitted a couple of hours ago and I'm jumping in and wearing them solidly. My brain is already adapting. Hearing aids are still absolutely fab and I really don't know that I'm wearing them already šŸ‘

I have trouble with my hearing aids. I dont dare ride in them in case they fall out and get lost. I wear them at uni lectures and at the theatre but sometimes they conflict with the local hearing headphones on offer. I ought to try again.
Are yours controlled through your phone?

OMG. I got had a go at by two horse riders. Well only the one mouthed off. But there were two of them. Why. Because there horse spooked at me and the dog.
Im just walking up the road with Quin having just been to see the sheep. I heard the two horses. Quin saw them and before he could run in to bit or chase i told him to leave. So crosses the road off onto a neighbours drive and lays down. I saw these riders, two big TBs so the front horse must have seen me and the dog too. Im in my hi viz coat. Quin was also wearing a hi viz jacket. So i also crossed the road and bent down to hold onto Quin. Granted we were on a bend and where quin laid was tucked slightly back. But the first rider and horse most definitely should have seen us. It was that one that spooked as we came back into sight. Didnt do anything nasty you just heard the feet plant briefly. The one behind may have spooked because of the first one, i didnt actually see. But the one behind as she goes past says i should have called out to let them know i was there. So i said im very easy to see wearing hi viz and was infront of you for long enough to have seen both horses and riders. I also already called the dog. All im saying is you should have let us know you are there she shouts. I said if you had been paying attention you would have seen us. The front rider most definitely would have. She starts lipping off. So i said next time i will stand in the middle of the road.
Perhaps i should not bother to have called quin away either. Maybe next time i should let him rush in at the horses legs. He did as he was asked and was actually very sensible walking off and laying down. I wasnt going to move him for being good so did the sensible thing and got hold of his collar too.
I know we all say if people hide in the bushes horses think theres a dragon. But i was not hidden and there was plenty of time for riders to have seen us in hi viz. I think the 2nd rider was just on one.
I dont think either even thanked me for having stopped, to wait for them to pass or getting out there way.
She just rialled me with all her lip.

What arrogant idiots @chunky monkey ! The correct response should have been "thank you", maybe adding in a compliment on Quin's behaviour, in fact I think I'd have said something along the lines of "the words you're looking for are "thank you", and yes you're welcome!". What's the betting they're scared of their horses and so panic if anything changes, such as a dog and walker being on the road?

the sort that give riders a bad name.....totally out of order,

Funnily enough, on my first walk yesterday, after hogan's lameness, we had a young lad with 3 dogs, hunker down in the bushes on the lane. Hogan fiddle faddled a bit, knowing something was there, I said "he knows somethings there, just not what it is". Said young man stood up slowly, I said thank you, job done. All very civilised - your lot sound like total drama queens!

finally cracked - i think - how to deal with a herd of 5 on different regimes. Buddy and Tintin go to summer field during the day, Saffy Suze and Fleur are given dry hay in the morning when they come in for breakfast as they are on the winter field 24.7 and it is a bit bare. They usually have a big bale in there. Just filled all the haynets for them. Three wheelbarrows filled with hay which will be soaked at tea time, 2 piles in the stables that are left open then three wheelbarrows strategically placed so Buddy can eat wet hay with the girls or they can go up the winter field if they want. Tintin in stable with big haynet as can't trust others to not nick his dry hay. May leave his door open and see what happens. Buddy is eating lots of fast fibre mixed with veteran vitality and seems quite chipper.

A thump in the night, 2am a poodle fell off the bed - not Millie recovering from surgery, but Harrison who also has had surgery. Holding up right hind which is his worst one. Got some gabapentin into him and back onto bed, very upset, calmed him down. Got him off to sleep, OH started snoring AGAIN soretired to spare room, no sleep, feel wrecked.

But the good news is that the silly poodle recovered enough to go out to play with his friend Red. He is now shattered from chasing balls and playing rough. Millie joined in for the first time.

Buddy not a good day, he had been doing well, then when i was going out mid afternoon, saw him down in the field, turned car around and went to see what was up. He had got stuck, rolling, got him up, brought him in, and gave him some soaked hay. When i got back offered him his dinner, wouldn't eat it, but wanted to eat the soaked hay. Called vet, waited two hours, he seems no worse, resting, ate some of his mint treats. Cancelled vet who has just rung. Like me, she thinks we are on the long goodbye.
