Glad all going well with Vicky, Debs. The poor dartmoor, lammi AND ulcers! Is he on balancers/probiotics? Would start with pink powder and then ask vet for omeprazole... they might want to put a camera down his stomach to see how bad it is, insurance will cover trip to hospital unless they can do scan out. A lil pony on my prev yard had it badly and was on omep for 3 months. It worked a treat and is on pink now with his feed and doing amazingly well. Not allowed cereals or alfalfa as it irritates his stomach.

Glad Acorn doing good Linda, how's grandson now? Emma's a natural!!

Malt is ok, he's been on allen&page fast fibre and is a different horse - I preferred cheeky chap but I like Malt that doesn't try to jump fence/gate/tractor parts/whatever in his path. So until we move he's staying on this wonderfully calming concoction!!! (Probably giving him NO energy but it's fab!!) This means he can stay in paddock ALL day. I still hate seeing him alone though, makes me sad but can't push issue with others. Can't make them lend me a horse can I? In the past I've offered my horse to be companion with a lonely one because I hate to see it. DO they love horses or what? Baffled. Roll on April.

Morning all, great to hear from you both - poor Bobs, probably got a bit stressed and then bouncing about his stable just made him a bit footy- if they are not horsey then they just don't understand the implications of somethings, we are lucky in that all ours don't mind most things being around them all the time....... own house with stables and fields - I think we all dream the dream...... I keep doing the lottery but no big win yet!

Hope Bobs is feeling better today, let us know how he is.

Sounds as if poor pony is suffering a bit, hopefully the tests they do will get to the bottom and get the diet sorted out - they say that most lami results from the gut - i must say I am pleased with the Global herb products. we had a slight frost this morning, nothing too bad so I have put him out in the fields with the others, a test for the Lammi Prone- there is some hay out and he was nibbling on that earlier hopefully he will be fine when I go tonight, he walked out well this morning, the stiffness in a morning is getting less now, still on the 1/2 bute during the day, but reduced it overnight to a 1/4 with 1/2
scoop of the Alpha Bute, hes eating his feed with that ammount in but if I increase he just throws the bucket at me, so I will keep him at that and reduce his bute slowly over the next few days as his back end gets stronger.
otherwise hes in good form.

Sounds as if Malt is more settled, I am sure you will get something sorted soon, as you say roll on April.

Grandson has a cold but hes on the mend now, I think I have finally caught up wih the lack of sleep:)

Morning all do hope I find you all well, how's Bobs Tracey?

Nothing much to report at this end, have swapped the Frost for Rain (lots of it) so Acorn is out everyday now, we have reduced the bute again and hes coming on well, he's starting the play fights in the field now so obviously feeling well, Charlie is down at the bottom of the pecking order again much to his disgust:rolleyes: Farrier booked for Saturday, we have gone over a few weeks due to the lami episode on Farriers instructions but his feet look great.
Have reduced the rebuild slightly as his feet are stable , hes eating his feeds now with 1/2 Alpha bute in, he will be off Bute tonight and only on 1/4 sachet a day today and tommorrow during the day, hopefully off at the weekend, will see how he is when farrier has been.

anyway best go and get some work done, in later to see if any updates,

morin bobs not to good this morin. got a temp! got ANTI BS from vet y-day he had one last nite got to him this morin not well at all :( rang vet she told to give him anti-bs this morin turn him out and see how he is at lunch time?
when i got to him this morin he was slaping his lips together not seen this b4 ? any one no?
Temp was 38.3? wash him down with cool water after 20min temp drop to 38.2? hes out but dont like him out?? he eaten all b-fast and left him eating haylage.

Had that green snot from his tooth cleared? makes you wonder if he still has a bit of infection which is why Vet put him onto the Anti B as a precautionary, if he has Virus then that would be course of action prob anyway. Hes eating and if drinking and poo's okay then hopefully the AB will sort it out. Not suprised they have said put out, they did that with ACorn when he had virus, he had temperature, actually shivering, we put rug on and turned out, he just stood with nose to floor dripping in his field shelter, but they said better out than in for the air quality etc.

do let us know how he goes on, thinking of you

hi lin.

no green nose or cough just not looking good or happy, been to see him again b4 gave him bit of lunch and he was eating it. neck very hard, and bit footie. not heat bit pulse this morin. but ok now. will go back around 4 to see him. just dont no what the hell is going wrong with him! good to hear acorn is getting & feeling better x

Is he getting at any spring grass Tracey? its growing now and we are all on grass watch - I would be concerned about the neck if it was on Acorn, as neck is usually followed by pulses if I don't get him sorted , its like a protien build up in the neck, he can have cold feet , but gets a bit footy, he always has a crest but I have to watch out for it changing shape and the hardness, its distinctive, feeling the neck is part of my daily check.

Lets hope its just a virus and the AB sort it out, I would just check his paddock make sure theres not a good source of rich thats hidden from your normal view to be on the safe side.

Alls well this end, weightaped Acorn last night and we are 158kg , exactly where we were this time last year, I knew he had dropped the extra over the past weeks,he's looking good though, nice shape, want to show him around 158/160kg so its weightwatchers now. Attitude wise, The Thug is back! rather than than a little misery guts anytime:)

anyway will pop back in later to see if we have any updates on Bobs,

Tracy - this thing with Bobs and the lips...we have a pony on our yard that had some teeth out about a month ago and he's been very poorly because the haylege wasn't getting chewed properly, it got compacted in the areas where the teeth came out, got infected and he then bit his tongue...poor boy. They found him in the morning with mouthfuls of goo just pouring out and he just dribbles. They have to wash his mouth out, he's out in the day and on hay replacer at night which he is starting to manage...but he was just wigglling his lips all over the place as so sore.... Hope the anti bs kick in and Bobs is going to be OK...

As for his neck, it seems to be the areas around the edges of the fields that its starting to grow... the shorter the grass, the more packed with frutose it is... so be careful (The little Dartmoor I tell you about is having a terrible time, she cannot even go out muzzled for a few hours now as shes so prone...shes in 24/7 at the mo. She tried putting her out for just a few hours a couple of times a week and it caused hard neck, pulses and heat.. and I would desribe out fields as mud baths and bare)

Glad that Acorn is still working his way to getting an ASBO again, thats what we like!!!!!

Madam Vicky....now theres a one, as may have seen, I'm posting away about her....little tinker. Have an Equine Touch/Reiki/ behaviourist coming tomorrow:D BUT think we've got brakes now... In a wilkie;) Time will tell! She does make me smile, shes got a real mare attitude, but is a happy, very intelligent girl who loves her work. Its fantastic to see results with her coat/body shape so quickly! DEcs is hoping to go on a pony club easter egg hunt with her:eek: that may well be fun!!!

Acorn had farrier on Saturday, farrier is happy with them, tell tale signs on soles of the lami attack but farrier says they look worse than they feel and not to worry, hes not lame on them just a bit tentative on hard ground, he was better tonight than this morning so a few days of the Arnica treatment and I am sure we will get there, hes spot on out in the field and causing the usual ammount of trouble bless him, we have grass coming through but so far hes fine (touching wood) TBH he spends more time playing with Charlie than eating which is good for the pair of them as C could do to lose a bit of weight. He is fine on his back end now that he is getting full day turnouts again, down to 1/4 bute on a night and during the day and he has now decided he will eat his dinner with the Alpha bute in , so he will be coming off the bute fully over next few days. keeping him on the lami prone but have reduced the rebuild to 1/2 a scoop morning and night now and will slowly wean him off it over next couple of weeks.

anyway going for a soak and a rest now, will be back in tomorrow for any updates, take care

afternoon all. glad to hear all hoofs are well.
bobs AbS are working no green nose, still bit foot sore, richard due tomorrow so ill see what he says. little sod got out of his area again y-day, and the fence was on.. could have cryed to see him eating this grass his teeth and lips where green.. even the owner of the stables came out and said hes been there a few hours but hes ok,:mad: no hes not! only if they had a brain !!! ive told them so many time if you see him out ring me, even if you no am not at home ill come to him ASAP. but now hes got a upset tummy poo's poo's poo's... but no pulse or heat in feet so thats one good thing... ( i think) but hes not right, just dont no what else to do.. :(

rain rain rain here. and grass getting green :eek: bobs area getting smaller. keeps going like this bobs will only be able to move up and down, want be able to turn around the area will be that small. :) hate to think what richards going to say today!! do hope its not bad news, couldnt cope with any more.. do hope all hoofs are well xx

Morning all,

Bobs is a bit of an escape artist, have you thought of running a second electic wire about 3 ft outside of the other one, like a second barrier, if he gets through the first then at least he will prob stay in it and eat around the length, gives you time to get him back with minimum grass intake. I am sure his poo's will soon sort themselves out once you have him back off the fresh stuff, you would think they would take notice of what you say knowing his history - no accounting for folks! at least no heat or pulses so thats good,
I am sure Richard will be able to shed some light on whats going on, do let us know how you get on, will be thinking of you both.

Acorn is up in his top paddock last two days, still a bit footy since his trim, so decided the road was just a bit too much, hes got lots of different surfaces though, Shavings, rubber, concrete, sand and grass and plenty of mud! so that should help, he was better on one this morning so one to go, hes absolutely fine on the grass, trotting out like a good one, but he refused blank yesterday morning to step over the chalk stones ( only 4 of his strides) so I thought well he knows best so turned him round and went up to his paddock which he was fine with, I am sure he will let me know when he is ready to go back down the road, as he will refuse to go the other way:rolleyes: no pulses, heat , back end fine so getting there. I am walking him down the grass track and back morning and night to stretch him out and he was running around in his paddock like a loony when I went to get him last night, hes eating fine and holding his weight , just time.

Well good morning, sun shining and April here already, but not sure how long this Sun is going to last, looks like a wet and cold Easter for us.

Nothing too much to report this end, Acorn still up in his paddock but improving daily looks as though he will get down to the field over the weekend, almost off the bute now and hes eating his feed with the full dose of Alphabute last couple of days , not on bute on a night and 1/4 sachet during the day today, going to order his other boot today, only got the one at the moment due to the sizing problems so hopefully we will get those sorted and fitted and working next week and he can start doing a bit more roadwork then. He won't have them on in the field or just for jaunts to the field unless he needs them straight after a trim, but for longer jaunts I am going to use them, hopefully they will be sucessful and solve any trauma problems, he loves going out for long walks so can't wait.

anyway best get some work done, do let us know how Bobs is Tracey....

afternoon all.
sun out here to after y-days weather snow :eek: winds. hail...
richard came on tuesday, he saw that bobs was sore on one foot, but no new sign of lammi. which is good news, keeped bobs in y-day with weather being bad, and he was still bit sore y-day. got there this morin and still sore so up his pain killer to 1& ahalf and went back at lunch time, which he was better so boots on and out, so just hope hes ok tonite, hes worrying me sick, richard told me to ring hilton herbs and see what they have in vitC. going to try giving him some of that...so any advise would be great please....

I would do as Richard suggests and ring Hilton herbs and see what they suggest, a bit like us when we have been ill, needs a pick me up - got this off site:

Vitamin C is important to the immune system and eliminates damaging free radicals.
although it does also say:

A vitamin C overdose can result in diarrhea, iron toxicity, anemia, and liver problems. :eek: so might be worth mentioning how intolerant he seems to be with his diet.

Do hope you find something soon to help give him that little boost he obviously needs.

hope all hoofs are well. bobs bit better y-day so fingers crossed it will pass. rain rain rain today. was nice y-day up to around 6 last nite, but at least no frost.

Happy Easter All!! Have you all got enormous Easter eggs? I got some butterscotch fudge as OH couldn't stand the crowd in thorntons and went down road to local fudge shop instead! Yummmmmmmyyyyy!!! yes, I feel suitably fat and naughty!

Glad Bobs is in better spirits and the sunshine lifts him. Good to hear Acorn well and some walks out is in sight Linda! Debs, sounds like you're having fun with Vicky :D
