Introductions here please!

I'm ancient. I have a cob and a pony. The cob is rideable but I rarely bother riding these days. I enjoy doing inhand agility things. Wish I had a ménage.been a horse owner for over fifty years. Used to do showing classes many many years ago.

Hi! I'm Phil, I'm in my early-mid forties and (after many years of daydreaming about the idea but feeling self-conscious) finally decided to take up horse riding! I had my first lessons last week and again today and have absolutely loved it more than I imagined! I don't know if I can say 'I'm a horse rider' yet (or how many lessons guantify that?) Buy I have 3 more booked and have bought some gear (jods, boots and hat) so I guess maybe? Anyway, really happy to start my new adventure in the saddle (I've just finished playing football, so timing is good as I need a new keep-fit activity)
Just wanted to post an update and share that taking up riding is absolutely the best thing I've ever done. Lessons at my riding school get booked up quickly and my work schedule makes it tricky to arrange regular lessons, but happily, I've just completed my 17th lesson and have another 4 booked for May, which I'm really excited about. Slow progress, but worth it. My muscles are less achey with each visit and currently working hard to improve my rising trot and my instructor says I'm nearly there... I guess I've got the horse bug baaaaad! (this is an itch I wish I'd scratched years ago, but better late than never, right?) and now I just want to spend as much time in the saddle as possible (if I had my way, it would be all day, everyday! Haha) I'm committed to my new-found passion indefinitely and hope to be cantering soon (and maybe one day have my own horse). Thanks for the supportive comments 😊

That’s great, glad you’re enjoying it!

Amazing! It takes a lot of courage to pick up a new hobby/skill as an adult, especially one which can be dangerous, but it’s so worth it to have that connection with horses and to get that feeling of being on top of the word!

Lovely to hear this @Phil80 :) Maybe start a thread telling us about how it's going, it's likely to get more attention and replies than posting on this one.

After a very long absence, I am planning my return to the world of horses and thought I'd see if my login still worked - and it does! Don't know if anyone from pre-2010 is still on here? Anywho, hello to you all and I look forward to being a part of this community again :)

Hello! :) Are there many other "oldies" on here now? Thinking Varkie, Galadriel and the very knowledgeable lady from the Shetland Isles etc? I'm friends with DrummersMum on Facebook and a few others whose handles I've forgotten.

Hi, I live on Exmoor and have recently returned to riding after 25 years ( work, kids etc got in the way). I can’t believe I left it so long as I am really enjoying it but it has me thinking about a particular pony that I owned and then lost track of her when the riding centre that bought her from me closed. I will do a separate post if ok and see if she jogs any memories.

I'm Lys. They/She.

Right now I'm more of a horse enthusiast than a rider or anything like that (although I did do some equine therapy when I was around 4 but it wasn't actual lessons). I hope that's okay.
Welcome! :) I've only really spent the past couple of years of my life - just turned 37 - with regular (weekly, anyway) contact with horses, but have been horse mad my whole life. It doesn't run in the family or anything like that. You've come to the right place - people are lovely here and you'll learn a lot too! :)
