Alright, who else uses a monkey strap?

I have one on my saddle, actually it came on there and I have never seen a reason to remove it. It's handy for carting the saddle (also a treeless) and well frankly you just never know when you might need it. 2 of my friends also have them on their saddles.. never really thought twice about it frankly. We have another name for it, however it's not for young viewers :)

I'm intrigued...

LoL:D At least there's someone!
Next problem now maybe I'm not completely alone in my strange habits, the tackshop ones are only long enough for kiddie hands(gives you a hint about the target market, right?) so I use all the spare flash straps off my bridles:D

I have used a flash strap too so you are not alone at all :)

My lad went through a period of royally taking the mick out of me about 2 yrs ago, I had also only been riding for a few years so a friend showed m that trick and it helped me out a good few times.

I have removed it now and if I am desperat he has a maringale or a nice long mane to grab :D

Could you not try a stirrup round the horses neck? My friend has that for the same reason as your monkey strap (used to riding prima ballerina youngsters). She then has a flash strap attached the the right dee and the neckstrap to prevent it from going over the neck. I prefer a hunt breastplate - it's there but no-one knows it's used as a seatbelt :p

I use a flash strap too. I'm trying to improve my forward seat so use the strap for practising balance.

I think some people tend to look down on accessories like that, but hey, if William F-P uses a neckstrap then they've got to be good, right?:D

Monkey Strap! :D That cracked me up! I've never heard it called that before! We call them 'panic handles' or 'grab handles'!!! We make LOTS for the local riding schools - in child AND adult hand sizes! ;)

Why do you call it a monkey strap anyway!?:D

It translates really funny into Hungarian! That's my morning giggle over and done with! Not laughing at you, you understand, just at the name it's been given! Monkey Strap.... LOVE IT! :D

I have an OMG:eek: strap (its normally known as a hunting breastplate) the strap is right accross where your hands are so very handy to find in an emergency!

I call it a balance strap too.

Mine is webbing with an adjustment so you have it as lonmg or short as you want it to be.

TBH when I have needed to make a grab for something I have always found the pommel before I found the strap anyway

I keep mine on my saddle for my 6 year old to hold onto. I'm a horrible mum who doesn't let her have any reins :o

I honestly don't know, it's just what the ones sold for kiddies are labelled as here, so figured that was the name. Maybe it's coz you use it for hanging onto while you swing around...

You mane grabbers - if I grab my horses mane he pitches his head down and I shoot out the side-door, your horses must be a lot more tolerant than him!
