Who else does? There's gotta be someone...
I'm being laughed at, good-humouredly of course, because I ride with a monkey strap:o
I've been riding 12 years, never used one until I started backing horses, now it's just on my saddles all the time and I've come to rely on it being there... better than a yank in the mouth in case things go downhill, right?(I was trotting in the school once, had a mental pause:o and didn't give turning aids when we came to the corner, the horse skidded into the fence and I'd have fallen off if I didn't have it!;))
So today when an owner came to visit and ride her horses that I've been starting, why did she think it was so funny? She didn't know what it was to start with:rolleyes:
It can't be that unusual(!), so who else has got them?

Oh no, nobody else knows what they are, I'm a freak:eek::D
Yeah, thats what they are

my daughter had one on her saddle when she was leaning to canter, i dont need one as i ride a treefree and it has a sort of hump on the front with a gap under lol just enough for me to be to grab hold of if need be lol

nope but im thinking of getting one for when i get back on my girly :D

the new rider freaks lmao :D

LoL:D At least there's someone!
Next problem now maybe I'm not completely alone in my strange habits, the tackshop ones are only long enough for kiddie hands(gives you a hint about the target market, right?) so I use all the spare flash straps off my bridles:D

I have a MASSIVE handle (pommel) on my treeless saddle and most people see it as a monkey grip :) its great for those random spooks and gallops lol :) its not so good for learning to jump though as it kinda sticks into me a bit :( but its the most comfy saddle ever so that makes it better :)

I've been riding for 7 years but I know of people who have them that have ridden for 30+ years and its just a safety feature for them really :) yay for monkey grips!

oh wow thank you , i dont use any flash straps ever, i have loads of them in my cupboard, i can now use them :D

monty's helper - thanks for the link, will have a nosey and check if they ship to NZ, I can't seem to get a nice bigger size one made here! I had one made but it won't soften:( I think it's got some kind of center cord or wire in it.

colleen&val, it was a long time using a short bit of rope(not the prettiest look:p) before I figured that out! Might as well use them for something;)

I wouldn't be without my monkey strap now, I feel naked when I get on a saddle that doesn't have one

Jura has one on his saddle - I don't normally use it but it saved me last night when I was trying to get a canter transition without stirrups, he didn't want to go and I was steadily bouncing out the side door, after one quick hoik back I was ready and off we cantered :p

shes really good and if you tell her what size you need she should make you one, she a dab hand at making anything. good luck

LOL, I have to use mine when Skye gets out his extended trot, I wouldn't keep up otherwise!

I broke the one on Steppys saddle... I was trying to get him to canter without stirrups (which was, up until last night, somewhat of a weakness for me) and I pulled on it too hard... Whoops, off the D rings. :D

Is it a fleece? It looks brilliant, perfect colours for a bay, looking at royal blue with babyblue stitching for my pumpkin chestnut, but would definitely get more use out of a fleece than a sheet:cool:

i rang her sayin *** i wanted as its for shows, i told her the colours my daughter wanted but she said no it wouldnt suit and said she will chose the colours and thats *** i got and its lush.i think the po is on there modeling white show head coller things lol.if theres anything think else u want but she aint got on there just send her an email sayin *** u want and she prob do it.
