2025 Hacking and Inhand Thread

Well I had my first little potter around for February yesterday. Do what you can Jan is gone. I'm not sure what to call this though, Flippin cold Feb?! It was really chilly. Today is wet and miserable and blowing a small gale so I won't be on board. But I'm pleased that I've managed quite a few rides already this year. Compared to my usual winter riding which is non existent this is great! Bring on the spring though....................(it is staying a bit lighter though isn't it). :D

Another muddy plod for Fuzzy and me. She is fabulous though, I just love her attitude. Mud? What mud, no problem. She picked her way through it and was very willing. Its bright and breezy here so it was a good opportunity. I wasn't going to bother with one thing and another (still got no hot water and no heating) but I'm very glad that I did in the end. Bit off topic, but I'd bought some new jodhs (haven't bought any in years and years). Lol. They are the biggest pants I've ever worn! Hahahahaa, I've lost a bit of weight and bought my old size. Ha. They are a bit on the loose side. Maybe they will shrink....................................

I managed to finish "Do what you can Jan" with a short hack. Started "flippin cold Feb" with a longer hack in the Sun (Yay!) and then finally on Sunday had a play in the school over some jumps (up to 90cm)

My friend does a moonlight ride. I might do that one day, but it's not on my to do list. I would be the one tripping over something.
I really enjoy night riding, but this week was just a walk around the estate out of necessity as there’s not quite enough light to get out after work yet.

When we only had one (large, white) dog I used to love walking him in the dark, it was so peaceful. I daren't do it with 3 dogs in case any of them go out of sight. I would absolutely love to ride out at night, or possibly set off before dawn and watch the sun rise from the top of a hill. Won't happen here though, no hacking that doesn't involve roads and not even a hint of a hill 🤣

The Cairngorm 100 involves night (as well as day) riding through the Cairngorms. 100 miles in 24 hours. That is a dream.

The idea of watching the sun come up is on my list.
It won't be on hers.
I still recall the excitement I had over the trees and her, well she didn't.
She still doesn't to this day use the area, even as a cut through 😂

I had another short potter today but am being very careful as I have an infected finger which is causing me some grief. I was on pins in case I got it stuck in the reins or something (it's that sore) but she was great and the sun was out and no wind. I am going to try and get a gp appointment next week cos I don't think this darn finger is going to go right on it's own. I'm soaking it in salt water a few times a day and keeping it clean but it's twice the size it should be! Made me think how awful and painful an abscess for them must be

I love how accurate the weather forecast is being at them moment - its really helping me get the most out of the nice days
Thursday was a nice ride in the sun although it was still cold
Friday was horrid with sporadic hail so I didn't go too far
Saturday was showery so we had a play in the school and did some jumping
and finally Sunday was decent and we had a rare hack out in company

Harvey was very proud that he had put his own bed down

Just had a very pleasant little pootle, nothing exciting as Sid is a bit low energy at the moment and so am I. I think its the horrid weather. But though it was cod today (3 degrees) it was dry, and no wind, so I was fine to go out without gloves, even.

He got a bit overheated when two of the beautiful racehorses from the Brook stable pulled onto the bridlepath. I let them on in front of us, because, as I said to them, their walk would probably be faster than Sid's canter. Sid said he could keep up, really he could, but I thought he would go pop so we went another way. And of course we met the same horses at the top of our canter track! His eyes were on stalks again.

I think a lot of people would call Sid a plod these days, because he walks slowly unless I really get after him. But he always trots nicely and canters nicely when asked, and sometimes he offers! I don't think a plod does that.

Got her out for a leg stretch. Had to turn round as discovered road works we weren't going to fit past. She didn't mind and had a nice walk on her think she enjoyed the change of scenery.
I think she's coming into season, we had a few humps and jumps when I went to brush her tail. "get orrff ma tail"
It's gone chilly hasn't it.
