2016.... Tracking Challenge( hours -ridden/inhand) add your photos as well

well done everyone, one of the reason I started the thread was to encourage people to ride even in fairly bad weather conditions. I for one am always making excuses not to ride.

@joellie & Marley loved the video.

@Ale I know the feeling about walking them out inhand

@horseandgoatmom Love your training work wish I new where to begin sometimes with some of mine. I have my Richard Winters DVDs going to get started on them I think. Just need my other half to buy a dvd player :)

@Stamper well done for getting on and going for a ride :) bet you feel massive achievement.

@Jessy Little hank really does look so cute. He will be a cracking little driver.

@ Newforest I am terrified of out main road..but wish I had little lanes like that near us ( well I do if i hack 20 mins on the main road :( )

I hope this is ok ??? Because we have 11 ponies ( well technically 1horse and 10 ponies) I am going to keep one running total but each time I work one of them inhand or under saddle will add to the times I do a lot of inhand work I never added last year...

HSIH (hours schooled in hand) - 0
HSR (hours schooling ridden) - 1
HHIH (hours hacked in hand) - 30 min
HHR (hours hacked ridden) - 0

The reason for splitting out the categories is to give everyone more of a shot at winning a section at the end of the year, hopefully encouraging everyone to do more even if they only school or only hack because I know I will hack for hours upon hours but schooling is generally limited to an hour at a time so they arent comparable.
I too school out on hacks, but you know what I mean, that section is for those going in circles, be it in an arena, menage, paddock, field, round pen etc where as the other is for those going out and about, simples.

She looks very relaxed! You've accomplished a lot with her. How did you begin teaching the ground tying?

Its not that hard
Start in enclosed place at first and drop the rope and slowly move away and lots of praise over time further away
Lots of praise
Play with it for short times often.
When your comfortable in an enclosed area expand it to a bit more open areas.
I also use "stand" as a que.
Its not a really good explanation.

For me I love manhole covers they are great to use to stand on and to use for a turn on the forehand
or haunches.
It is a bit funny though when they paved the road they paved over all the manholes and they put circles
where they are under the pavement and I guess they are not going to put them back in until they
do the final paving in the spring..
They are still in the train station though.

One thing I don't play on are storm drains. I don't think either Sonny or andi would have a care at all
but I just don't like them

Finally got out for my first hack of the year..yipee it was raining but no gales so i thought i can cope with rain. We had a lovely hack and he had a couple of stubborn moments:rolleyes: but all in all he was good. I had my gopro cam on and recording the whole hack which was over an hour and a half so i made a short video of us for a laugh and to let you all see a bit of my area. I really really do need a hacking buddy as I think i am losing the plot, when i played it back i couldn't find any parts where i don't talk, i'm either humming, singing, whistiling, talking, telling him off or praising him....poor Marley what he has to put up with lol ...so enjoy :p
Total ridden 1 hr 30 mins :D

Great vid! Looks like a lovely set up - and what a good boy!!!!!:D

@Stamper well done, look at you all smiles on board the wee cute Jaxen. It will be great to see how you both come along this year:)

@Ale its great to see you back out hacking and you didn't let the rain stop you, good for you!;)

@horseandgoatmom i love the pic of Andi standing on the arrow with her tongue sticking out :D

@Native Lover i used to always make excuses not to ride, still do sometimes but not as often as this hacking thread has helped me so much, so the next time you try to make an excuse not to ride think of all of us encouraging you to get on with it :p :D

Thanks everyone for liking my wee video, he is a very good boy with traffic but he can get a bit nappy and very opinionated at times, i took him out without his boots for that hack so the clip clop you here on the video are his nice strong hooves.

If its ok i'm just adding my hours up like i did last year, in hand and ridden. I mostly just hack anyway. In the summer i will prob ride in the fields on the odd day.
Can't get out today as we have torrential rain here:(

I really enjoyed tracking my hacking last year, I didnt even include schooling as it was a hacking thread so I think I will just track my hacking miles with AQHA this year. I shall leave it to someone else to do the totals for everyone if you wish to, of course I will finish out the 2015 lot once everyone has added updated totals to that thread.

I am going to try and go for another hack on Thursday too, it's all thanks to this thread for motivating me to try and all of you encouraging me :) I really do enjoy it once I'm out there!! I really hope this spring and summer I can find the courage to do the longest of our hacks which is 3/4 hours :D

You explained it just fine, horseandgoatmom! Going to start today, once it warms up a bit. The nearest manhole cover is about 30 miles from here, so we'll have to improvise :)

Its not really about winning, just lighthearted fun, same as it has been all along, it was just about offering categories that meant everyone could join in and recognising the different things we do non competitively :)

Well since I fell off today I am not including any schooling ;)

Jessey if your tracking your hacking miles with AQHA this year, does that mean your not participating on here?!! I really hope not, i loved seeing the pics of your lovely long hacks, and now Jess is on the road to recovery i was hoping to see some more fab pics again soon.
