Odd things since upgrade

Just a thought... when you watch a thread the default is to NOT get emails. Is that causing any of the issues?

I just pulled up a list of threads there was a single box at the right on each saying. Email...
NONE WERE TICKED.

I had a problem with the icons at one point - I think they had become unticked or something.

I changed my my wifi connection too but its still being temperamental. I agree its not all the time. Login is a bit slow.

We are being hit with some bots at the moment which are going through scraping the pages. They hit a lot of pages in a very short space of time and cause the intermittent slowness you see. Working on trying to prevent them.

What does that mean, @Mike , "bots scraping the pages"? It sounds either SF or fungal, and painful either way!

It's like when Google index the site they have a program running on their servers which visits a page on NewRider and copies the text to process for their search engine. They can run multiple of these programs at once so it's like 100 people all clicking to view 100 different pages all at once. It puts a brief load on the server and you have to wait a bit longer for the page you've asked for. Google and Bing can slow things down especially if they are visiting at the same time ( they are at the moment). Then you get less well behaved search bots from other indexing sites, especially China and they can try and index 1000+ pages all at the same time and that can hammer the site. It's those I'm trying to reject.

I couldn’t get it to load yesterday, gave up in the end but it’s fine this morning, good to know it’s just bots and not on my end.
