Any one had any experience of Liverpool cream treatment for sarcoids? Vet phoned today (eventually) and theyve recommended treatment particularly for the one on his face which probably has a root and is likely to turn malignant  5 visits over 8 days and £450  It has to be done, and Im not very happy but wondering if anyone has any little hints, tips or advice? Googling will give me facts but just wondering what to expect practically?

This sounds mad, but I have read quite a lot about treating with Crest toothpaste? It would seem that for some unknown reason, well to a numpty like me anyway, there seems to be quite a lot of people claiming success with this where other more conventional treatment failed?

Is it possible you could try this first before embarking on the expensive Liverpool cream route? Would it be feasible to try or is the vet's prognosis based on some sort of imminent time scale?

I am sure if you google it you will find lots of information.

Be as relaxed as you can be. Make sure you have some yellow fly cream if there are flies about. Its no consultation but this is the best time to treat do its hopefully all done and scanned before the fly season.

The vet used a barrier round Joy's sarcoid so the cream only went where it was needed. The first few days Joy didn't care but then when the cream started working then the sarcoid hurt and she became more upset with having it done. That was only the last couple of days though.

With it being on Logan's face you'll need to watch for him rubbing it. I never had that problem as Joys was on her stiffle and could rub on her tummy.

I had sachets of byte to use for Joy but didn't really need much and could ride as normal as she wasn't upset unless you went near it.

Ziggy has a small sarcoid (like a small marble embedded in his skin) on the underside of his tail at the top. He came with it and I have never done anything about it. It gets bigger and smaller. Should I do something?

Thanks JC. That could get interesting with the one on his scrotum! He wouldnt let the vet near his bits when it was infected - lifted a leg immediatley although would let me look at it and clean it next day? It will be the same vet that did his castration so wonder if he'll bear a grudge

Im sure we'll get through it with lots of treats and scratches but at least Im forewarned - Ill practise 'fiddling' as well as lifting feet as he does have a tendancy to cock a leg if he doesnt like something - he hasnt kicked out but he is making his position clear! Whilst he didnt kick out at the farrier he did push him off! I growl if he tilts a hip at me!!!!

Yellow summer fly cream is amazing stuff - you can spot him from a distance as hes got splotches all over him! We have those horrible black ear flies in abundance already so theyve all been ear creamed today. His ears is the one area Logan is really adamant about not having touched - they are horribly scabby inside but managed to get some cream on the hair at least with the use of some treats and swift action! Another item on my little and often list!

Im no expert but have been busy googling. There are many different types - some you need to worry about and some you dont but i suspect it takes an expert to tell the difference. My vet took photos and sent them to a specialist (i think they said the only guy in the country who does this) but he's the ultimate sarcoid geek and he comes back with the recommeded treatment, which could be do nothing. Liverpool cream is, unfortunately for us, one of the most extreme treatments - I really thought he was going to say leave them alone as theres been a big improvement visually

I got the vet out as soon as I found Joy's she sent pics off and they suggested the 5 days of a relatively low potency Liverpool cream.

It didn't scab over or fall off and I was told another batch of cream would be free of charge but her visits would be charged as normal. That wasn't the real issue for me though, money never is, the big problem was that it was late spring by that stage and the glues were dreadful. In vets advice we took a watch and wait stance. Joy's was a varracoid one, just a lump under the skin with no root a about the size of my thumb nail. By the end of the following summer it'd disappeared of its own accord and she's never got another one. There are 6 different types with differing characteristics and likelihood of spreading or recurring.

Personally I'd never self diagnose and self treat where sarcoids are concerned as they non-malignant cancers. The sooner its caught the better.

.

I have read about this too- there is an enormous thread on HHO Forum with many posters advising crest toothpaste worked. From memory I do think its only certain types of sarcoid though.

I could never understand why anyone would muck about where a non malignant cancer is concerned? Its beyond my realms of comprehension.

The vet did tell me what sort it was but Ive forgotton - having done some research on the site I think it is verrucous and i think i heard the term 'occult rim'. She did talk a lot then confused me even more by trying to make 5 appointments there and then over the phone whilst i am in the field half way through feeding the ponios! I retained absuloutely nothing!

When she took the photos she had taken the surface off (came away easily like a scab) and it was very angry looking beneath. They have 'dried' and shrunk considerably since and Im under strict instructions not to mess with them especially the one next to his castration site as there can be cell transfer to the wound site (this is the reason flies are an issue too).

I also am not sure which of the treatments 'liverpool cream' refers to - I presume this one? http://www.liv.ac.uk/sarcoids/treatment/aw4-ludes/

There are lots of anecdotal stories about this and that working, but i expect they were on the type of sarcoids that fix themselves anyway. Im happy to go with a herbal supplement as it wont harm but am not prepared to delay treatment or try 'home remedies' that have the potential to make things worse or delay medical treatment. Minor issues Ill 'have a go' but when its potentially life threatening Ill go with scientific advice

If you care to read my post as I have written it JS - you will see I am only offering up this information as something I have read about and suggestion that more information is googled on the subject.

I was not suggesting for one moment that OP disregards whatever her vet is saying, hence why I asked what the prognosis and time scale is on this type of sarcoid? If the vet is saying this is an urgent, very invasive sarcoid then of course the treatment should not be delayed.

Just to be absolutely clear here please, I was NOT suggesting that the 'non malignant cancer' be mucked about with, I was remarking on a treatment I had heard off that MIGHT have been of some interest for the OP to google and read, depending on what exactly the vets diagnosis and prognosis is? I hope that is now clear enough for you? Your reading my post as other than that suggestion, is frankly beyond my realms of comprehension.:frown:

my vet used a different cream Efudix which i was permitted to self apply using latex gloves but they would not let me apply the 'Liverpool' cream. I put it on once a day and in two weeks the sarcoid was gone and the wound healed up fine.

i used it on two donkeys, both sarcoids came off ok, and the wound site healed upwith no sign they had ever been there

Ferguson donkey is covered in sarcoids, he has had them all his life. He has them on his face, legs, chests, under the skin, he is plastered with them, he is 26 now and the only one we have had to treat is one that started to grow and was behind his knee and might interfere with his movement (not that he is a good mover anyway...) so we treated it. Big Ears had one on her muzzle which they froze off.

Youngsters sometimes get milk warts/sarcoids which clear up - Leo had one when he was 3 it came up on his chest and then went away again without treatment.

Bad day again Contrasna?

If YOU care to read my response as I had written it, I QUOTED JANE&ZIGGY AS THAT'S WHAT MY POST WAS RELATING TO! Since when was this about you?

I look forward to your apology and in the meantime will continue as i have been in avoid posting in relation to your posts unless I'm in agreement with you in the hope of avoiding a third uncalled for acerbic response. Leave me alone!

If you are waiting for an apology then hell might freeze over first JS.:bounce: If you find responding and reading any of my posts gets you so hot and bothered that you have to (yet again:rolleyes:) resort to making personal comments about the sort of day I might or might not be having then why don't you simply block me?

I will however apologise to the OP for any thing I said resulting in this thread going of subject. I had merely hoped to add some alternative thoughts to the discussion. My bad! I really hope the treatment is successful OP.

!

Sorry JS :( . It was my post that you were referring too. With regards to said post I was in no way advising annareeves to ignore her vets advice & just use toothpaste & I'm sorry if my post gave that impression.

I just thought the OP may like to have a search for the particular thread on HHO (who also don't advise to go against vets recommendations) as it was an interesting read on sarcoids & various other methods of treatment as the Liverpool cream doesn't always work.

Really sorry if I caused any upset though between you & cortrasna though. I perhaps should have stated the above in my original post. :)

Ps would use the similes but on tapatalk at the moment.
