@OwnedbyChanter this made me think of your friends horse, did you ever figure that out?

On our short hack they were awful and couldn't care less that I had fly sprayed us both, so I grabbed a branch and must have looked like a crazy lady swishing it around myself and Jess head, shoulders and belly :p

Ha ha I did the same this morning, we always used to use elder branches when I was young.
Had half a dozen of the buggers on each of belles cheeks this morning, the only bit that isn’t covered up! We’re both getting mighty sick of them now.
Hope your SI rug works for Jess - I really feel for them just now.

I'm grateful we haven't (yet) got horseflies, I bet they are out a mile down river from us but I have been avoiding it. We just have mozzies galore.

We've got horseflies everywhere, they're making life a misery right now. Yesterday they were so bad that everything was brought in at lunchtime & not turned back out until late evening. A lovely day & I ended up riding in the indoor school because of them . They bite through anything, no fly rug is going to stop them when jods & jeans don't.

Not really. She is giving him a herbal supplement now which seems to be working thank you for asking.
