I am going to the new forest for a week over easter, i want to enjoy a 1/2 hour hack, but it will be so busy and although its nice to walk and trot, i have been riding 13 years and an experienced rider and i want to have a couple of short canters, and some lovely scenery.

Anyone recommand where to go to?

I sometimes box over to the new forest, its only 15 min from my house. I tend to go to Canada Common, West Wellow, it is the New Forest but depends where in the forest you will be, becuase its bloody massive! Or I have been over in the forest, lyndhurst way, some nice riding too.

It's fab though, i go exactly for that reason and let Capo have some lovely long cantering sessions, up and down hills, its really great, we have got lost a few times and ended up surrounded by a bog/marsh but all good fun!! Hope you enjoy it!

Forest Park hotel stables is good. Caters for all ages and those wishing to get at least 1 canter in an hour hack. Its Brockenhurst

Another vote for Forest Park at Brockenhurst here, used to go there regularly and it was the scene of some big NR meets once upon a time too :)

burley villas, i wasnt so keen on as when we left the yar we hacked along a busy road to the forest, not far but i really loath roadwork and I went to ride in the forest not along roads. forest park its out the gate and across the road into the forest.

Thanks for the tip Libbyo. I agree with you I am not keen on road riding as I get nervous and seeing as mum is a complete beginner, I don't think she would like the idea of riding on a road immediately either, no matter now bombproof their horses it is still daunting IMO. I was also slightly worried that the hack there was 2 hours long and I don't think her legs will take that (she has some problems)

That place looks quite nice Trio, and I see they do a semi-private hack for two people and an instructor, so it would just be me and mum which would be quite cool :o) then we could be sure nothing too advanced for her would happen (she is so nervous bless her, but she really wants to get over her fear :) )

if you want a more individual ride dont go to forest park as they only ride on black knowl which is a green opposite the riding school and the number of poeple is large on each ride.
Ford farm has gorgeous horses/ponies and is right on the forest and they will plan a ride just for you-much more interesting. its where i used to keep my boys. i've ridden at forest park, burley villa, burley manor and new forest riding and watersports and still think that FF offers a better ride experience.

week days forest park is quieter. ive had some fab rides out just me and an escort. perfection. Big rides are good to if you are mixed ability. there is always a canter option at the same time as others walk/trot.

ive riden at both burley's too. never ford farm. i used to ride as a child with gerry rickman at his yard which was on the road comming out of brockenhurst towards sway.

there is also new park hotel stables. they are good too.
