What’s that one thing you wouldn’t be without? Or maybe your top 3 lol

For me, my long coat, wide brim wax hat and head torch are essentials!

For the horses, the little boys round bale net was a brilliant investment, and putting up the big shelter definitely worth the work 👌

Oooh good thread!
If I had to pick my top three for me;
Ariat wellies - I buy them from Welly Warehouse and they are "last years" model usually so discounted but so comfy and I wouldn't wear any other brand now. I usually only get two seasons out of them,, but they work hard!
My old woolly hat with the fake fur on top as its the only one that does not make my head itch and essential for keeping hair out of face and eyes etc.
My second hand ebay bargain vintage Puffa jacket which is a size too big but means I can wear numerous hoodies and tops underneath. (Doesn't generally need to come out until January though).

For the horses;
Re-chargeable lights in each stable. They are fab, bought them off Amazon and they trickle charge up all day but provide enough light for things to be doable and last a good three hours plus.
Straw - lots of it, as the byre needs to be a safe comfy dry place on really bad gale nights for them all.
An extra wheel barrow - because on really really hooly bad nights there is no way I'm clambering up the muck heap, but they still need skipping out.

Yes horse food - lots and lots of that I stock up on.
We aren't that remote here but, we can struggle to get into town to the feed merchants now and again. So I try and have a bit put away for the worst of the weather.
I like to have a bag of Speedi Beet in and a spare bag of Happy Hoof - just in case.
I always have plenty of hay in the cat barn and haylege.

Okay lol I'll go first for the indoors;
Good warming breakfasts, porridge and croissants and hot coffee (this post muck out) bagels, philly and scrambled eggs
After the evening stables - central heating, home made curry, jeans with lycra and soft jumpers. Lots of nuts pre dinner :D
Binge watching Chicago PD or something similar...........and then an early night with a book.......got to be up early to do the horses of course...............🤭🐴

The short wellies as I can walk the miles I need to in them. I don't need the long types.
Ear warmer fleece headband as a hat tends to make me to hot but I have one anyway
A waterproof lightly padded coat that I can layer if needs be x 2 as it let's one dry if needed. I do have a thick one, but that rarely sees daylight.

For the horse.
The pig tail electric fencing posts that let the tape blow in the wind and don't break, fall over, bend or let it go. I have semi permanent ones right down the middle.
Thin electric cord that's just used as a visual track to go in and out of the field (because someone can't lead nicely!) It doesn't fall down once up and will stay put until the spring.
Barrow with a tyre that never needs pumping up.

I have some deerskin gloves @Frances144 i love them for working in when it’s really biting cold but we rarely get that here, my hands is one part of me that rarely gets cold so I don’t often wear gloves.

My electric blanket is about my only thing I can’t do without at home. And food obviously, you’re making me hungry listing all that @trewswers.

I’d forgotten the woes of a flat wheelbarrow tyre @newforest, I was given a very expensive super tough builders wheelbarrow about 25 years ago that has an unpunctureable tyre on it, and it’s still going strong!

It's a godsend isn't it. I like to try and make my life easier in the winter.
Someone got me a tyre one year for Christmas, I was over the moon.
Life is hard enough, so looking guard to reading other people's ideas in case I have missed anything.

One thing the yard has is an easy access grid to use the muck heap so you can easily push the barrow up on top, level and rotate.

Over the years I've been quite lucky with barrows - they work hard here lol
Before the tyres give up the main frame rusts! Sea air perhaps. Either that or it is just a harsh climate.
So far so good with my big blue one though.
I get very excited about a trip to the feed merchants and spend a lot of time looking at barrows and yard brushes hahahaa. There was a time when I drooled over the jackets and jodhs. Not now hahahaa.

For me my cuddlr trousers and udder cream for my cracked and sore hands.

For the horses, field paste for if their feet get soggy. Can't think of anything else offhand, except the normal rugs etc.

For the house - heating! Especially a hot towel rail equalling lovely warm towels. And (not really the house but it is my wfh office, albeit in my tackroom), my heated keyboard mat. It's been a game changer for me. My hands are the only bit I can't wrap up warm when I have to use a keyboard, but no more cold hands with this baby! I rarely need to switch on my overhead infra red heater either.

Oooh I wish I'd known heated keyboard mats existed when I worked in the back of the shop we had. Omg it was cold in there in winter and my hands were constantly numb and I struggled typing. Does the field paste help stop cracks on their hoof?

Ah ha.
Someone who uses those trousers. I keep getting it pop up on my feed.
I have just bought cheap joggers for after swimming. But those pop up as being ideal for around horses and after wild swimming.
So you are pleased with the quality.

It was my son who told me about the heated keyboard mats, I didn't know they existed either. Although I am gradually coming to realise that if I think of something that would be useful, someone has probably invented it already, and I can probably find it on Amazon lol.

My OH got me a pair last Christmas. I loved them so much I bought a second pair so I had one to wear and one in the wash. I actually find them too warm for mucking out, but for everything else they're a godsend. I feel happy as soon as I put them on.

Apparently you can buy similar, or even the same cheaper, from Temu but I don't trust their sizing.

My harry hall long coats. I have three as they are cosy, totally waterproof and just brilliant.

My grubs wellies as they are the longest by lasting I’ve come across.

And for me living on a smallholding at the top of a huge hill that’s hit by storms and snow frequently, my quad with snow plough. Complete game changer this past winter. Although given how bad the snow was, it did defeat my plough and I had to get my hay guy to come dig out the 5 foot drifts blocking us in 🙈

It is so foul here today I would like an insulated space suit. I walked down to the end of our road in to get my post. Ugh. I had brain ache by the time I got back to the house - it was so wet, windy and cold. And its not even Halloween yet 😫
