Well today we tried to take my autistic brother horse riding but unfortunatly he didnt want to get on the horse! Or wear the helmet! :(
So we just let him spend some time with the pony at first but he still did not want to get on the pony so i had a lesson instead!
I think at the moment he is alot happier just stroking them and spending time with them!
But i suppose atleast we gave him the opportunity of going riding.

theres quite a lot of evidence around the use of horses as theraputic partners that suggests that the riding is only 1 element - your brother may get just as much from being with the pony/horse, making eye contact, having to work around appropriate noise levels & careful movement - i have worked with a number of children who never wanted to ride but got lots out of the day to day contact with the pony - autistic children are particullary good at reminding us that our agenda may not be theirs - hope he had a lovely time:)
