Some of you may know from other posts that I backed Maya this year. Our ground work is great and our liberty is really coming along with lots of wow factor.
Now - when it comes to the riding I really do want to get things right for both our sakes really! Mine because I don't want to get into a situation that I can't handle and teach her to chuck me off or something. So we have been taking it slowly building up our confidence.
Yesterday we rode around the yard for the first time and we've been doing indirect and direct reins. It's got to the point where we can have a nice little play around the school in walk.
Now I really meant to desensitise her as much as I could to make up for my lack of ability to stay on spooking/broncing horses However now I feel that we could be doing a little trot we've come to a rut. She yawns! I use all the phases and start flacking her with the rope. I don't want to make her mad at me or cranky and start kicking or bucking when I ask her to trot.
I've been trying to just ask for a quicker walk and I'll always reward her for that. Am I going about this the right way? Should I just keep asking her to go quicker and quicker until one day she goes so quick she trots? Or is there another way I can get her to do it without being cranky or out of control?
I'm not complaining! I would rather struggle on this part rather than struggle trying to stop her
Thanks guys! Sorry it was a bit long!
