Although I joined the 'cantering again corner' sometime ago I have to confess that although happy to canter out on a hack I had an absolutely ridiculous fear of cantering in the schooling area I have made in my field
Been flying along in there with all my trotting and transitions and progressed wonderfully with control in trot.
But......was just plain terrified to try him in canter - have thought this through and came to the conclusion that as it was breaking in and schooling a young horse many, many years ago, in the field, in canter that caused my back injury I think subconsciously the accident was coming back to haunt me!
So this morning I decided I would have to just b****y well go for it if I wanted to also sort out his breaks in the pelham when cantering.
Cue much nervous hyperventilating, much effort to stop myself tensing up as tight as a drum - straight from walk, yay!!...correct leg. Only did a lap each time - but managed about 6 goes at it - not much brakes yet but managed the correct leg everytime - I was just so chuffed that I have conquered yet another of my many nervous phobias!
Pointless thread really as not a big deal for most of you but was for me!!!
