It always looks so lovely where you are. Will you please post some photos/film when it freezing cold and blowing a gale so I am not tempted to move up there?

That's some wind! But the other aspects more than make up for it I am sure! Just shown OH the beach vid, he loved it too.
Scottish beaches are not the South of France - Mind you the last two days in London it has rained hard (hence Royal Windsor show postponed due to flooding). My Tuesday hack was the wettest ever with glasses all steamed up - but very lovely, looking like Shetland with no one in sight. OH also rode and got soaked through -

it's rare you have to share one. Had to share Quendale beach with 12 porpoises once, Sandness beach with some otters and Bousta is hard to find space for a beach towel because of the seals

Quite right Wally... I remember sunbathing on Horgabost on Harris butt naked, not another soul to be seen and I came back with an amazing tan, so much so people thought I had been aboard, I know Harris isn't as far north as Shetland but people still assume it's never warm there.

We went to a bike rally last weekend and none of the trikers wore helmets. Got on and left for home at ten Sunday morning and then ran into a hail storm from hell which lasted over a quarter of an hour. It even drove them off the road înto a pub car park for coffees and change of clothing. They said the hail was like being trapped on a firing range with someone shooting pellets at them!
I'd gone down in the van with a friend so it passed us by! They all donned their helmets when we set off again...!
