Winters just vile, but the evenings are getting longer and maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Boys have not been doing a lot, 1 with recurrent foot issues (again), baby horse not doing anything in the dark and the big black horse has finally been diagnosed with teeth issues after being just a bit odd for a while.
However D had happily grown up this winter and is looking great. Might get someone in for 6 weeks to get him going as he is quite athletic.
Well, we now have much more acceptable behavioir from D and I sat on him again at the weekend. Was perfect and so nice to do that again. Looking a bit fluffy still, but he really has grown up!
The coloured beast is also back in work just in time for spring and we are having a nice time hacking to get his fitness back up after 5 weeks off and enjoying the sunny days and longer evenings.
We now have trot properly on hos good rein! The bad one is still very much a wip.
Ive got someone booked in to do the initial riding away when the clocks change as I think he might be a bit sticky and I am too old to want to deal with a proper toddler tantrum about something when ive someone very used to dealing with all kinds of silly youngster stuff a avaliable.
So all change with plans. Ive had the opportunity of reduced (but still slightly eyewatering) backing livery for D so he is off to big school today with an ex 1m 40 showjumper turned eventer whilst her youngster is back out in the field for 4 to 5 weeks having just been backed. The yard is beautiful and she is a fantastic rider so should give us the perfect start. Only 15 mins from our yard so can go see him whenever i like. Which is good as i will miss his face.
Had the first jump of the year on the coloured beast sunday in the sunshine and my first after work hack of the year last night.
Cute pic of the herd in the late sunshine from the girl who hacks the kids pony!
Big horse is doing fine having had his really broken tooth out and some work on some others so all set for a nice summer. I cant believe the size of it!
Well, he is very good once he gets going! He is with them because i found him very sticky and they have also found this. However, very big improvement in a short space of time and I am really hopeful for the future!
Plus point: such natural balance under saddle he has already chucked in a flying change.
Bad point: had a rear to himself about going forwards and has apparently been a bit quick with his feet.
Plus point: really good hacking and not bothered by anything!
I went to see him yesterday. Seems really contented (or knackered!)
So D has been at his 'holiday' home for 9 days now and to give him a change of scenery they introduced him to the indoor school and some loose jumping for the 1st time in his life!
This is D 13 days into his time at the backing yard. He hasnt been super easy in terms of his behaviour on the floor, but has been pretty good under saddle. He has also had a bit of a makeover and looks a lot more grown up.
What a good boy! He has another 2 weeks at least to go, still very excited.
