Sadly it isn't all that unusual over here, for a farm death to be reported when a farmer, worker or family member is overcome by fumes from the slurry tank.

It occurred to me today, the cows stand on the slats over the slurry tanks all winter long, how come they don't perish from the fumes?:(

I've no idea as I've never heard of this happening but - death by poo. That is not the way I want to go!

'orrible death I would imagine, especially for those poor things who actually topple over into the tank.

I have to say I hadn't thought of that Newforest....so I guess the movement of the dung and pee slopping down into it isnt enough
to agitate it sufficiently to release the fumes then?

BAck in the day, OH was a plastic engineer and lots of his work involved welding massive plastic tanks. He used to go into them with no breathing apparatus, but a couple of mice or a canary in a cage. He used to have lunch in the tank and feed his sandwiches rto the mice
