Daffy is fully clipped, a bit too fat for the time of year and we think he may be laminitic, so I'm trying to shift his weight.
He's in at night with a cotton sheet on (only because it is magnetic), he's getting minimal feed but he is still having ad lib haylage. During the day he either has free access to his stable, the yard and the paddock that is in, or he is in a paddock with a field shelter, which he doesn't seem to be using. During the day, provided it is dry he hasn't had a rug on. There is some grass, enough to eat, but it isn't rich.
He hasn't been cold at any point, more luke warm (which I believe is more desirable than toasty) but he had a bit of a snotty nose tonight and apparently this morning. Didn't look nasty, but I'm slightly concerned that he may come down with a chill, and have put a lw stable rug on. Tomorrow he will be turned out with a 180g rug.
Yes I want to get his weight off, but not to the extent that he catches a chill because of it. If I have to rug so be it, I will find an alternative to shift his weight. So I need to know the early and more critical symptoms of a chill please
