Flax seed is very rich, full of oil and all those good vitamins. I guess it might upset him. It used to give my old skinny Arab the runs if he had too much,

I am giving less than recommended (only two tablespoons per feeding). It's ground and stabilized, so since it's a powder, he can't avoid it mixed into his feed.
Interestingly, I got some flax seed treats as a sample with an order, and he dislikes them and will not eat them. Minnie loves them and eats them with no problem.
So perhaps he knows flax makes him feel bad, and he avoids it if he can ( if it comes as cookies, he leaves them in the bowl. If it comes as a powder, he can't leave it out since it's stuck to his pellets).
I stopped feeding the flax, and so far, no further issues. We will see if that was it in a couple of weeks, I guess when there are no reoccurrences. Fingers crossed.

Oh, I hope you have put your finger on it. I am sure you can find something else to supply his Omega Oils.
I think there's a chance he'll be a hugger like Minnie!
He still is worried about being touched with a hand reaching out to his face.
But he likes to teach out with his face and gently tap you with his nose and receive a kiss on his nose as long as it doesn't involve hands.
Minnie likes to put her head over my shoulder and stand really close to me.
He also seems to like the standing close hugging better than anything reaching for him.
I'm not sure yet what it means but the last time I did this he actually used his head to nudge me a little closer to his chest.
I'm really grateful he's so gentle even when he's nervous.
No bite. No kick. Just a really sweet little boy
(No digestive issues for now either!)

Sid is not an affectionate horse, but the first time he started to show some bonding to me was when we were out walking in hand and he touched me with his nose. I read it as looking for reassurance, so I stroked him and told him he was good. He kept doing it again, I kept stroking and reassuring. It was very sweet.

Doing my after lunch colic check in and he's feeling sporty today. Minnie had to come help me catch him.

So we actually 'played' today specifically to create photo opportunities. In fact when he looked like he was about to take off I made the clucking sound to tell him 'go'.
The game ends when we all go to the barn together or when he comes to the barn when I'm already there.

Hopefully all of that means it was a positive experience for him and he’ll be able to tolerate more next time 
If you stand next to him and don't do anything he turns his head and gently puts his nose on your body for a moment. Nothing pushy. Just a brief hello. I like it.
