Poor horse...

With no offence meant but did you read the comments? It explains more about the situation and horse :)

The horse was 2 weeks off turning 4 yrs old and the video was clips put together over a course of 4 weeks training sessions, designed to show a brief insite into the training of a show jumper.

However i wouldn't jump a 3 year old, but then im not a show jumper!!:p

Forgot to say the video is 2yrs old and the horse is jumping well with his owner! (says on their website!)

Ha ha bless ya! I didn't feel comfortable with the video which is why i read all 138 comments!! Just so i knew what was going on.......

...i'm very inquisitive like that!:o

Interesting video (not getting into the whole 'too young' debate!) but did anyone else think, errr no sh*t! Yeah teach you horse to jump, start small, make it bigger, add a filler, make it bigger... doesnt take a genius to work that out! To be fair I was watching with no sound so there may have been more useful comments other than what popped up on screen...

I didnt read all the comments but I thought the people in the video were wearing the exact same clothes throughout the session (or sessions!) thats why I thought it was done all at once. I stand corrected if thats not the case:)

Stressy's right - the poster of the vid says that the sequence is to show the stages of training over several weeks, however she also says the actual video was shot over the course of an afternoon.

I suppose its not necessarily the first time the horse has done the stages.

I understand that SJ trainers often do start horses this early, and while I wouldn't I appreciate that lots of people do it all the time and claim no ill effects so fair enough. My y/o's three year old has been jumping towards the end of this year at home, but she was introduced VERY slowly and only asked to do what she was happy with and is now getting turned away for the winter to do nothing.

As long as you think a horse is mature enough I don't think there's any harm against lunging/freeschooling over the odd cross pole one session and maybe upping the height the next. My concern is that chasing a horse round for an 'afternoon' is a bit much - I'd probs only ask for 2/3 jumps in a session altogether to start with.
