I am coastal and I wonder if that is why we don't tend to get snow, apart from higher ground.Shetland weather, part 4: snow. We don’t get heavy snow falls very often - it mostly gets blown straight over - but it can build up on the hills and against walls. Our winters are not very cold, but there is a significant windchill factor. I live very close to the sea, so salt is also a factor in dispersing the snow. This is a typical snowy day scene. As you can see, the ponies are not bothered at all!

Apparently snow has to be at a lower temperature to settle on a salty surface. I think that is why is used with grit for roads.I am coastal and I wonder if that is why we don't tend to get snow, apart from higher ground.
