Photo fun "mud" theme

Continuing the Shetland weather theme……
Shetland can be very windy. 20+mph is almost routine, with 40+mph also quite normal; 60+mph from time to time and 80+mph now and again.
This photo is from a few years ago, not long after we moved here and still had Harvey. There was a strong easterly blowing, and the dry stone wall was perfect shelter for the ponies. Harvey’s 16.3hh, however, could not be so easily accommodated. He could have stayed in the barn, but preferred to be out with his little friends, so he came up with this solution!

Shetland weather, part 4: snow. We don’t get heavy snow falls very often - it mostly gets blown straight over - but it can build up on the hills and against walls. Our winters are not very cold, but there is a significant windchill factor. I live very close to the sea, so salt is also a factor in dispersing the snow. This is a typical snowy day scene. As you can see, the ponies are not bothered at all!

I am coastal and I wonder if that is why we don't tend to get snow, apart from higher ground.

We do get some gorgeous clear days in Shetland of course, when everything is clearly defined. This is the view from outside my house, looking north. There’s nothing between the land in this photo and the Arctic Circle. It is an excellent spot for viewing the northern lights, but I don’t have the right equipment, or skills, to capture them.

To monitor it.
And go right out if I see interest.

It won't stay out there ...
It will be a bring out and play then
It goes back In
The garage or barn.

To round off my selection of Shetland weather, these were taken in the Simmer Dim - that period in summer when it never gets truly dark, but there is often a glorious twilight. The 2 photos were taken at the same time - 10.25pm - on the same day - 5th June 2020. One was taken from my back door, looking north over the voe; the other was from my front door, looking east over the pier and Bluemull Sound towards Unst.5D7304C5-0A75-4BE8-8537-1CB56F262281.jpegAD03650B-1FE8-4C61-81E6-BCD5135B4F4D.jpeg
