Our fun rides :)

Julie, I am SO proud of you.... it wasn't that long ago that you used to avoid riding near your golf course and NOW look at you! Very well done!!! :D We were hoping to get to Enville FR but Jack's saddle problems AND no car put paid to that.

How fabulous you both look together! What a good (eventful - golfers!) ride. I think you did really well. Your confidence sounds huge, so pleased for you.

Yey, Glad you got round with no nerves!!, and enjoyed it. I went with 2 others, one of the fields near the start backs on to our yard :) This was the first fun ride I have done, if you saw us we were the two completely out of control!! ha, I did enjoy it, but bert insisted on jogging all the way round, we had a few gallops with no brakes! I thought he would settle but he didnt, at the short cut point I was cream crackered so we decided to opt for the short route. I hope if i do some more on him he wont be so bad.

Next year I will be tackling the jumps.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Rudge fun ride sept 2014

Potentially the last funride of this year. It was just the other side of our village too which was convenient, though we still trailered there as I couldn't be bothered with the hacking there and back.

I took my yard friend, she hasn't been on a funride this year and her horse is known to be a bit of a monkey when excited, so we went late when it is quieter.

When we arrived my funride friend from last week was there. She had had an incident with the group of crazy teenagers she went to the funride with from her yard, they went galloping off and her horse lost the plot. She was going to go home but we persuaded her to come with us as we were going to be taking it very slow.

I jumped about 5/6 jumps, two were the moveable ones that the hunt put up and the rest were on the XC course which starts at 2ft3 according to their website - so naughty me jumped a bit higher than normal :)

We didn't do the full route as my yard friend isn't used to such long rides so we cut it short and I did a relay to drop 2 horses first then 1 after.

Haven't been to this one for years, glad we went though I still don't think it's one that I love, it's quite hilly in places and the ground is freshly cut through a woodland which means the ground is a bit soggy/boggy sometimes.

We couldn't do any stubble canters and the tag along pony was a bit excitable and Moët would have just wanted to race. So tbh I feel most of the ride was in walk, still enjoyed it though.

Just counted back, disappointingly I can only count 8 for this year so far, how crap :( though we have done some XC hire to make up the numbers and some combined training/ODE.

There is possibly one more ride I can make in Oct, just waiting to find out if I have a babysitter that weekend.

2015:

First fun ride of the year today.

Was such a disappointment! It was Marbury Farm Ride, which we often go to a couple of times a year.

The route is mainly across open grazing fields, which are covered in grass but with all the rain last week the ground was just too soft. It looked ok but then every step sunk at least 2 inches, we basically walked a third of it, had two short trots and two short canters and then gave up and took a short cut back to the trailer. Mostly others were walking too, though some groups of hunters obviously don't care and were galloping around, each to their own!

We did have an incident where there's a bottle neck with the photographer and groups of hunters literally galloping past jumping brush fences. I am so uber proud of Moet and Major as they didn't freak, just jogged and spun to watch. My sharer completely lost her nerve but stayed on and was pleased that major didn't really do anything :)

Got another one on sunday, looking forward to that one

We should have a trailer by the end of next month so I'll be pestering you for all your fun ride dates!!!

Funride No 2: Lincomb Fun Ride April 2015

What a lovely day!! Not been to a funride here before, though have hired the XC course a few times. I took my sister on Major and we had such fun!

Course essentially started at the XC, so we jumped as many smaller jumps that we could, though not tiring the horses out as we were conscious of the remainder of the fun ride! Obviously we got some piccies too :)

The course was mainly around open fields on a freshly mown track. We had tons and tons of canters and a couple of gallops. Moet was absolutely perfect, I seriously couldn't have asked for any more from her. She had plenty of energy but didn't get strong and pulled up at just a voice request from me.

It seemed fairly quiet at the time we went round, a few people passed but asked politely and dropped down to trot.

Major was also amazing, he is much more forward at the moment and was positively keen to canter if my sister wanted him to.

Would love them to do more at this venue but it doesn't seem to be an annual ride, more like every other year :(

That looks a great venue, I'm going to look it up! Horses seem to be enjoying it too - doesn't Moet jump big??!

Glad you had a great day :)

My obsession with purchasing photos (just jpegs where possible) makes my funrides very expensive lol! I am waiting for the photos from yesterdays funride then will post a diary entry!

Funride No. 3 of 2015: Apley Park in Bridgnorth with Albrighton Hunt.

What a glorious day! perfect weather, perfect conditions, perfect horse (lol soppy there!)

Took my Sunday sharer on Major, she was a bit nervous at points, but generally good and enjoyed herself. She also jumped quite a few 2ft jumps which was a push for her confidence, but she did them fine!

We jumped in front of both photographers which was fab, they were 2ft and 2ft3 ish and Moet popped them perfectly. I also jumped barrels, water butt jumps and straw bale jumps - Moet loved it.

This funride I find quite hilly and the route doesn't really allow for many blasting sections (plus my sharer is a bit nervous of galloping so often keeps Major steady), but we did have a couple and the horses had plenty of stamina for a big one up the last field.

Generally it was busy, we did have a fair amount of hunter groups pass us but the passing happened at ideal times where we could move out of the way. Moet didn't jog to chase today which was nice. The only thing I hate about this funride are the COWS! The field which was used for trailer parking had loose cows and calves in - and we arrived fairly early so they were mingling between the trailers trying to eat the hay...I HATE cows, really scared of them actually and I almost died.....but luckily by the time we came to unload quite a few other cars had arrived and the cows had moved away phew!!!! we had to ride through a large herd of cows though about 2/3rds of the way round.....initially one cow came trotting over moo-ing - Moet was NOT impressed (and neither was I!!)but we got past without bother. Then just coming up to the gate to get through a little calf chased Major who freaked out and ran sideways towards the cow herd (que my sharer screaming lol) anyway we did actually manage to get out and had a laugh about it but I am SO not keen on riding through cows!!!!!!

loads of photos for you all (the big posh house is Apley Hall)
