I rode Andi for the first time in years yesterday.
I was anxiously excied. I felt ready.
I used my trainers dressage saddle - he did ask if I wanted to put my tack
on her since I was going to get on her after.
I said NO do what every you plan to do then I will get on her with your tack.
I cant let myself get into the feeling of "got to have my western saddle on"
or anything like that.
It went great I loved his dressage saddle> I have a dressage but have not been in one
for over 8 years.
I did not feel tense or bracey.
We walked and trotted ( I had not planned to trot ) but I felt good and
then trotted and it felt great.
We did a little side pass and I stopped wanting more!!!
I have big confidence issues with her and I stopped feeling great!!
He said ride her over the next couple of days take her out and about the property and
when we go to the trail again. I can ride her.. EEK no no no I am not ready for that
I need to go really slowly in the rd pen first to get a good handle on my confidence.

I felt great about the ride and loved his saddle.
This am I woke up so stiff in my back right at the back belt line??????

Has anyone else encountered this getting back on a horse you have not ridden
for a long time???? Was I more tense than I thought???

The only other thing we did last nite was go to a Candle light walk at animal
sanctuary last nite and it was quite chilly and my feet got a little cold
but I don't remember my back being cold????

Any thoughts???
I do hope the asprin I just took takes hold quick!!!

I would say tension too but lower back could just be to do with holding the riding position for a while when you are unaccustomed to it. It's why core work is so important to riders - need to try and use your core not your back to support you.

My riding instructor tweaked my position last lesson. The next few rides I could feel tension where I hadn't had it as my muscles were trying to adjust to the new position and argue about the old one!

If it's lower back then it suggests you might have been holding yourself tight there as the rest of your body was trying to adjust to the saddle. A dressage saddle and western saddle is completely different seat and leg wise.

Also she has a different movement and maybe width?

I don't know about the stiffness, but wanted to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS for getting on Andi!! I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself, although pictures would have been nice lol :)

Well done I bet your over the moon !! I'm guessing the aching is cause you were do tense and hopefully next time you will feel more relaxed. What a nice achievement to end the year. xx

Thanks to everyone yes it may have been a combo of things.
Advil did help!!!!

I got on her again
Sunday western but I was still really sore.
I have not been back on her yet I don't want to get on her when no one is around to
have a set of eyes on us.
I think when I do get on her I will immediately take some
Advil after in case I am more these than I realize .
