Dear Heather, as a novice rider I found your book extremely readable and helpful and your general philosophy 'clicked' with me. I have recently changed the location of my weekly riding lessons to a new school, as i had misgivings about the teaching methods employed at my previous school. I am quite pleased with my new instructor, but she does not use your teaching methods, or the Pelham bit on her horses. I wondered, as I have no choice but to learn using a snaffle bit as I do not own my own horse, is it possible to still use your methods and to incorporate them into my learning. The horses at the school are not trained using your methods, as a novice how practicable would it be for me in one hour per week to attempt to use your methods- Do you think I would confuse the horses or myself?

You could certainly try Snowy, as the aids that you will find in my book are not really visible to the onlooker, so your instructor will be none the wiser anyway! by all means experiment and see if you get any reaction from the horses. If you do, I can guarantee a reaction from the teacher who will be amazed!

The hroses may be too desensitized to give satisfactiory results without the Pelham, but go for it!And let us know how you get on.

Heather
