New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

First potter in what felt like ages - (only a few days but been nursing poorly gelding!). Fuzzy was grumpy being tacked up (nowt new here) but once on board she was wonderful. Glad its that way around lol would be challenging if she was a dream to tack up and then a devil to ride lol She's really very good and is okay with Zi being on box rest and going out alone which was a worry at first.
He's been in since Monday and now booked vet for tomorrow as things are not better but seeming to be getting worse :( despite our best efforts with ice boots (we've been barking up the wrong tree we think now). He's eating and fine in himself but I need the vet to check him over then make a plan. Lovely day here, really mild. She went down for a roll soon as the tack came off:D🐴

I changed all their rugs yestrday to no fill full neck as it was getting warmer last week. So what happens? Snow/slush over night. 35 minutes walked in hand

A lovely pootle today, wasn't going to bother but got outside to skip out and was about to turn them all back out after snoozy time then realised how nice it was weather wise. Look at the mud all nice and dry too!

Getting up after her roll, soon as the tack was off down she goes..................

I was too warm in a jumper and summer jods.
She's not eating that, she's carrying it 😂
The next nice day she's getting clipped. Need to pull them out and get them charged up.

Ridden 35 minutes went well, got off coming down through the woods as very slippery, very windy she coped well apart from being in disgrace for biting me.

Had another lovely hack tonight. Went further than last week. No cantering but lots more trotting. Unfortunately the base of my spine is now swearing at me. I need to find a 2nd hand seat saver.
Planned for another hack on Friday.

I really do enjoy hacking. I have missed riding. So nice to be riding again.

Hydro yesterday did really well. put my back out in the afternoon, probably complaining after driving 3 hours sunday and Monday and lots of lifting. hobbling. No riding today just about managed to muck out and feed them.

Another lovely hack today. A small win for me, I managed a canter. Its only taken me 4 rides to get it into canter. It was a slight uphill and not very far, but after it launched into canter and I had to pull on the reins to say no we are not racing your pal. I got a very controlled canter. So found the rhythm easily.
Thats my first canter on a horse in probably nearly 4 years. I think I've just lost a bit of confidence. I did want my first canters to be too fast that it scared me. So a few more like today's will soon build me back up.

A very long hack today. Out for sevevral hours. My steps app indicated nearly 10 miles. I forgot to use strava. We managed another couple of canters as well, once we hit grass. Still need to get comfy with the speed. You cover so much more ground on a big horse.

First before work ride of the year today, hurray! Not light enough to go out on the roads yet but I did a short session in the field.

Weekend before last we did our first Endurance GB PR of the year. I did it with a friend this time and despite AJ scowling at friend's horse a lot I do think it helped calm him. He still got worked up and stressy towards the end of the ride which is something that needs sorting before we do any competitive rides as I think it will affect his heart rate.

I was very proud of how brave he was though, braver than friend's horse, who was supposed to be the sensible adult influence. But then again, he is Welsh 🤣 🥰

PS AJ isn't fat, honest. It's the angle .. ok he may be carrying a little holiday weight 🫢

Your scenery looks lovely, I miss trees. He's gorgeous - you both look fabulous!

No riding again for me. Gorgeous sunshine but far too windy, can hardly stand up when you turn the corner into the field. Oh well, she won't mind!
