Lead rein/first ridden showing?

12hh. Age of rider depends on type, show ponies and show hunter ponies lead rein up to 7 first ridden up to 10, native ponies lead rein to 9 first ridden to 12.

Local showing depends on club rules and can be very variable!!!!

Lead rein is exactly that ...a mannerly pony that a tiny child can ride in walk and trot with the leader merely on the end of a loose rein attached to the noseband for safety. First ridden needs to be a mannerly pony suitable for a child first competition efforts, they only walk and trot together but canter in their individual shows.

agree with above, although a lot of our local shows say under 12.2hh for LR or FR. Some local shows here also say age limit of 8yrs on LR and 10yrs on FR

All depends where you go and if local or a bigger show.

Most shows also say ridden horses must be 4yrs or over.

He won't be out showing until he's 4, I plan to back late next year when he's three, turn away for winter and bring back in as a 4yo.

Don't think there is any danger of him making over 12.2 :bounce: ...he was 10.2 and a half when measured last week
