My knee is getting more and more unstable, and I'm really not sure what to do
I've been thinking for a few months now about getting a knee brace, but no one seems able to point me in the right direction. What I could do with is an occupational therapist who specialises in riding who can help me test a few and fit them, as a badly fitted brace or support can do more harm than good, but my NHS OT says that since riding isn't "essential" I can't have a brace on the NHS, and since I want it for riding, she doesn't know how fitting it would differ.
I'm quite prepared to pay for one (within reason, as we're beyond broke!) but I want some advice on what the best brace would be for me and my disability, and for the activities I want to do with it. I hesitate to go to the local RDA, as I was once told it would cost me a fair bit to have an assessment done with their physiotherapist and if they don't think my horse is suitable, they can refuse to help me
I normally try to stick to dealing with people who know me and how my disability affects me because I find it so frustrating trying to explain things to new people.
I also feel that the RDA deal on a daily basis with people with far worse conditions than mine and that they might feel I'm wasting their time
Any thoughts on where else I can go to for advice?
