How's your grass looking?

It's gone green and there's a little bit of growth! Still haying as hoping to give it a chance to establish rather than be munched straight back to the roots.

We've had a few days of rain and everyone's fields have really picked up quickly. I don't think we'll get that much growth now before the cold starts, though

Needing rain. We're actually under drought status. The only thing keeping the grass going is the dew I believe. Its heavy enough yo add some moisture.

Ours won't be mowed in the field again, it's slowed right down thank goodness! Been fighting the fat all summer long so can relax a little now. Though if the rain carries on and then the sun comes this next couple of weeks it will likely shoot up again and I'll be back on red alert. We still have tons of the green stuff, even in Storm's smaller paddocks.

It's grown here. I am still not sure if I will make it to mid November before I have to start feeding hay. Some of the larger paddocks have plenty but the smaller ones were eaten off in the 24hours they were on them.
Im looking at options to go from 26 paddocks to 30. It's the logistics though. I've got plenty of wire. Would need more gate handles. I would also need to buy more water pipe. 200m would do it. May even need another trough. Although I am thinking it's better to use my portable drinker. It's working out how to fence so I can safely drive into the paddocks with the hay, avoiding bunny holes and driving the contour of the banks safely so we don't tip over.

We're still feeding hay, but our paddock is always poor with more weeds than grass. At least inbetween hay they are getting their heads down looking for grass rather than standing at the gate looking pathetic!

My rested fields have come back better than expected, but the ones they’re on aren’t great. They don’t look bad but the horses are telling me they’re hungry, they’ll even leave the grass to eat barley straw, I think it’s flushed so much they’re after extra fiber.

I can tell ours is still good because they are just ignoring the hay that I leave inside the byre of a night for them (just in case as its been very windy and wet here of late). When they start nibbling the hay I will know it's stopped growing and things are changing. Having said that Fuz has dropped a pound or two (yaye). Must be the stalking about back and forth, she's lots more active when the temp cools and she's not bothered with flies etc.
