How much time do you spend a day doing diy livery?

I am in the process of getting my first horse and have just started a new job this week and am trying to work out my start and finish times to work to my best advantage.

Until the end of the summer my horse will be out all night and brought in in the morning about 7ish for a few hours and then back out again about 3.

In winter out about 7ish and back in about 5. I will be using shavings for bedding.

Could you give me an idea of how long i should allow for all my chores each end (minus riding time) as that will only be fri noons, sat and sun

Well it depends that you are going to do, just feed and muck out or are you going to ride lunge or groom them ??

when i ride i will have lots of time, it's just mon - thurs really that i need to work out
 
Well i'm going to give myself an hour in the morning to feed and muck out 3 (usually in my pj's)!!!
I'll exercise them in the evenings as you know sometimes it could take more or less time !!!!:p
How long does it usually take?
 
It takes me about 15 -20mins to do a full muck out in the morning on a shavings bed (no rubber mats) I am very picky though and wear gloves and pick it up by hand :rolleyes: then about another 10mins to have a cuddle in the morning and turnout. Then in the evening about 10mins to grab in, and another 10 mins to mix feeds/haynets etc. If she's wearing rugs it takes about 10 mins longer morning and evening.

At the mo I'm loving it as she's living out so much less hassle :D
 
I can do a full muck out of a straw bed, putting haynets in/filling water and doing carrot balls/feeds, in under 30 minutes, including a walk to and from the field. I could probably do it in 15 if I wasn't putting him out.
 
About 30 mins in morning for feeding, mucking out (shavings with rubber mats), hay, water, changing rugs (talking winter!) and turning out (takes 10 mins).

If I'm just bringing in, feeding and changing rugs in evening then only about 15 mins but I always spare extra time for a cuddle and a groom!
 
My horse is on DIY livery as well. I'll list my day.

I get home from work at 6:30 - 6:45pm, quick change then mad rush down to the yard for 7pm. Luckily my friend gets her in for me, so tie her up outside, skip / muck out, change water etc etc

Groom her, then either ride or free school her. Give her a quick brush over and then back in the stable for din-dins. Im usually leaving at 9pm, but I dont get a massive amoutn of 'bonding' time with her during the wekdays, as its such a rush to do things before the skies get dark.

Ah my ''horse time'' is going to turn into a rush now isn't it !! For the last few months I'v had as much time as i like !!!!
Speaking of which, i better get off the dam internet and get back to them !!:p
 
generally my jobs take me as much time as i have ;)

since ive been back at work, i'm up at 5.45, at the yard for 6ish, get him out, give him breakfast, put his hoof boots and fly mask on, turn him out, muck out, sweep up and go back home. I leave his bed up in the day to dry out, and he's on rubber matting with a decent shavings bed. I usually get all this done for 6.30.

Of course if he wasn't so broken and didn't need all the faffing it'd take me 20 mins.

In the evenings, chucking his hay in, putting his bed down, mixing his dinner and breakfast oh and fetching him in, should take about half an hour but i spend too much time gossiping.

During the holidays i can get to the yard for 7am and still be fannying about at 9 :D

I generally allow 45mins in the morning for rugging & booting up, turning out & mucking out a full straw bed & doing hay & water. In the evenings if im just bringing in, putting his bed down & rugging up, I can be done in 15mins, but I normally groom him so if im not riding I'd normally expect to be down the yard for about half an hour unless i get chatting to someone....
 
I'm realllyyy slow and realllyyy fussy:

AM = 45-60 mins allowed (more if I stop to talk)
muck out, savings and rubber matting
turn out,
prepare feeds and hay for next day

PM = 45 - 60 mins
poo pick field/top up field water etc
groom/rug/cuddle
feed

could happily spend much longer but the family tend to get a bit ansy!
 
it takes me a hour and a half int he morning to do 4 horses. bring in check over poo pick field, give feed, do water, turn back out.

pm i don't always go up as mine live out but if i do then its generally grooming/exercising/more poo picking and water.
 
When i was working for 9am i'd get to yard for 8am and would be done in about 20mins.

While he ate his breakfast i hand-picked poo(with marigolds of course!!:D) as i deep litter straw. No rug unless -5, then i'd take him to field.

I'd fill water while filling haynets then make his tea and cover.

This all happens with no talking!! When i first had him it took me ages but 7 years on i'm super quick!! Its all about time- management apparently!:D

I'm soo looking forward to this winter as i'm self-employed, yippee:D
