If you purchased a horse that had been ridden by able bodied riders in the past and then purchased the horse to be trained for a para rider for dressage ( grade 1) , how long would you expect the horse to take to settle into his new life and how long does his training usually take?

Just wondering- thanks:)

How long is a piece of string :D

Seriously, it is very variable as to how horses react to severely disabled (Gr I/GrII) riders.
Monty from NR tried the mare that now belongs to my friend (who is Gr IV) and found that even in the trial ride the mare quickly figured out her imbalances and seemed to figure out how to respond in an appropriate way. I own the mare's half sister and she is similarly good at looking after less confident/competent riders and toning down her reactions.

Monty went through quite a few false starts to find a horse suited to her needs. Even her lovely Rubi is taking time to adapt fully to her needs, albeit in the kindest way. Rubi quite green but that seems to be better in some ways as she has not had a lot to unlearn in order to respond the way Monty wants her to.

It would be interesting to get the Para riders themselves to feed back, but I have noticed that mares in general seem to make a more genuine effort to look after para riders and to be more sensitive to their needs.
