Hi,

Has anyone ever known a horse to have jaundice disease, if so how serious is it , what are the symptoms and does anyone know of any cures? A friend in works next door neighbours horse has it and she asked me if i new of any cures which i dont so i thought id pick nr brains??

Thanx xx

Well, I don't know about how it works with horses, but I was born with jaundice and had it not been discovered a little while longer, I would have been quite severely mentally and physically handicapped.

In humans it generally reflects an underlying issue with the liver so my best guess is that the same applies to horses..

Jaundice isn't a disease it's a symptom, usually of liver function issues and the biggest possible cause in a horse of liver issues is ragwort poisoning. I suggest a vet is called.

thanx for your replies the horse is being looked after and has been seen by a vet on a few occasions who has given the horse injections to help xx

I may be COMPLETELY wrong but I'm sure an one of the liveries years ago had a pony with this, and he used to get little while spots around his eyes and muzzle where the skin pigmentation was affected by it.
