Well my farrier is coming atr midday today and while I'm at the yard I'll be telling YO that I'm leaving.... *gulp*

I have perfectly legitimate reasons for leaving.. basically to cut a long story short one of the girls had to leave our yard as YO is bringing his horse back (who has been out on working loan to a local equine college but is recovering from a serious injury he suffered over Christmas) and wants her stable.. last in, first out sort of scenario.

She has moved to a yard up the road but she has a young daughter and is struggling with 'true' DIY livery.. on our yard our YO's partner is fantastic and always on hand to help out of you ever can't get up etc. you just have to text or leave a note and she'll do anything for you.

Anyway she's desperate to come back so having had a nosey at her new yard I've said she can have my stable and I'll move up there. New yard offers 24/7 turnout in summer albeit in individual paddocks, allows you to manage your own grazing, no restricted turnout in winter and will work out cheaper for me. So like I say, perfectly legitimate reasons for leaving and I'm not inconveniencing them because the stable will be filled straight away.

But I still feel sick at the thought of the really awkward conversation I've got to have in just over an hour  Any tips on how to break the news?

One of those conversations that just has to be said as it is I'm afraid, end it with telling them how much you have enjoyed the yard etc.

Good luck!

Well done you, what a nice thing to do for this ex-livery. I think you are doing them a massive favour as you say the stable will be filled automatically with someone they already know. I think just be honest say exactly what you have said here - they should be greatful you're being so considerate (both parties!) and it will work out cheaper for you - woo! :D

Tell them what you've said to us about the other girl - just say you are sad to go but this lady needs to be on your yard more than you do so you are swapping with her

Best of luck xxxxx

maybe soften the blow a bit by saying something like ' doing a favour for other girl but if a stable becomes available let me know so i can come back' that way if you dont like the new yard you have a way back to your old one - good luck anyway! x

Yeah think its very sweet of you to help this lady out, even if it looks as though it will have some benefits for you as well. Just tell it like it is, there is nothing to say that if another stable comes back up you won't move back if it suits you.

Just be honest, only way to go;)

I was feeling this last Friday when I told my YO I was leaving!! I think you're quite similar to me in that I put things off for as long as possible!!

Got to the yard and saw YO, walked straight over and explained I had some bad news and that I would be leaving in a fortnight. She was fine with it and has since been questioning other liveries as to reasons why etc as she didn't even ask me!

Good luck - it'll be fine :)

Hey glad you found somewhere!!

I'm like you I hate having to do things like that!! alougth its not that your doing anything wrong either !! madness lol !!

Hope You get on ok in your new yard. I have individual paddocks at my yard 24hr turnout in summer to.. Kai is perfectly happy as he is always bottom of the pecking order at yards, at his last one it got to the point he was coming in daily with kick cuts and bite marks on his neck.

Hes very settled now, and still is able to mutual groom and play over the fences without being mauled to death!!

We can say yes horses will be horses... however we put them in a herd that we have no control over if they are being beaten up we have to sometimes intervene!!

I'm sure it will be fine anyway...plus you have the brownie point of offering the stable to be relet straight away!! happy days huh!

It'll be fine, just say you would like to do each other the favour and is it ok with you if...type thing.

You're not leaving on bad terms so you should be welcome back as and when there is room anyway :)

Thanks I just hope they don't take it personally, I want them to understand why I'm leaving (i.e. practical reasons) but also don't want to seem like I'm making out my new yard is so much better than theirs!:eek:

YO's partner who I'm hoping to speak to will be fine I'm sure.. YO will probably be more funny but just have to grit my teeth and bear it. Just keep reminding myself I can't stay there forever just for fear of upsetting people!

Yep Bozzy I've been putting this off for over a week now, keep making excuses not to talk to them....

Do they not offer the same level of turnout? I wouldn't worry the fact that the other person you'll be swapping with only left because they had to not because they wanted to must be in your favour :)

Ha ha yes so it is my farrier is due out at 12:45pm I was just pondering when to leave (I'm at work so will be tip-toeing out to sneak off to my farrier appointment) :p

Yard I'm at now doesn't offer 24/7 turnout in summer and also doesn't allow you to manage your own grazing which I struggle with having a good doer on very good grass... new yard lets you section it off as you please to restrict grazing etc.

My other main reasons for going are:

£7 cheaper per week than what I pay now

Stables have bars inbetween so the horses can socialise which I think would settle my boy

Less "rules" in general... YO at the moment is really picky... most recently removed all outside tie-rings and forbid us from tying up outside, then because my horse has a habit of backing up out of the door of his stable when tied up he took all my tie rings down in my stable one day and just left me with one right in the far corner! And left me a note up on the wall in the communal feed room saying if I needed any help in the "correct" way to tie up a horse/pony to see him! He makes me feel like his staff not a paying livery most of the time the way he b*llocks me and tells me how I should be looking after my horse

But obviously I won't bring any of that up.. just going to play on the fact he can go out 24/7 which is better for his health with his spavins and will save me time etc. :)

They have a lot of native ponies on the yard so are equipped for them, whereas the yard I'm on at the moment is more warmbloods and TB's, competition horses so geared towards their needs. I will be sacrificing 5* facilities where I'm at now but to be honest with an only semi-sound horse I don't realistically need them

Hope it went well...

Gosh Angelofben.. fancy not being able to tie your horse up properley...:D
