Ok. Lexi is a REALLY good doer and currently I share a 4 acre (approx.) field with 2 other horses - The field is split into 2 smaller paddocks, 1 being larger than the other...... they were in the smaller of the 2 and they were grazing it down nicely, and Lexi was stabled during the day and out at night with about 8-10lb of hay.
One of the other owners has decided that we need to graze down the larger paddock (I'm not joking - you could almost cut hay!). So, I bought Lexi in this morning, and she is HUGE!!!!! So, I soaked her hay for just over an hour and gave her about 6lb - she'll stay in until I get down there from work this evening (about 5:30pm) and then I'll turn her out again.
What do you think would be the best way to try and control her weight??
She is not really fat, I would like her to be a little slimmer, but she is deceptively chunky anyway. She is worked 5 days a week doing various activities including, schooling, hacking and lunging.
She is given a small feed of Happy Hoof (1/2 stubbs scoop per feed) so that I can give her her supplements.
Do I....
A. Carry on with what I am doing.....
B. Make a small paddock on her own within the larger paddock
C. Turn her out during the day and bring her in at night (less grazing hours)
D. Muzzle her
E. Increase her workload (but, she has only just turned 4)
All thoughts, opinions and advice welcome
