Does anyone here have or know of anyone with a fuzed spine?

The discs in my spine have barely anyliquid between them meaning that i have fuzed spinal discs. This means that my spine bends irregularly and i am slightly hunch backed.

I just wanted to know if anyone has the same condition?;)

Because I have been told that I can ride by a specialist, and I have 4 horses, but my back has been hurting alot lately... so i am going back to the specialist. But i dont know if he is going to say that i cant ride anymore.

If you have this condition or know of anyone with this condition could you tell me if you can still ride? Does it affect your riding? (i think it affects mine, because learning to canter on the longe is very hard for me)

Would you classify this as disabled?

Hiya, don't have this condition myself but in terms of disability, it's kind of up to you to class yourself as disabled. Are you in the UK? There is no register of disabled people anymore. You can claim disability benefits that allow you to continue working but you would be eligible if your daily life was impeded in certain ways by your health problem. So for example, you have pain and discomfort walking, moving around your home, bathing, toiletting, dressing, cooking etc. In terms of riding, i can't really comment on how if would affect you, maybe someone else can help. Oops, just realised you're in Oz. Not sure what it's like there but whilst i would always be positive about what you can do, rather than what you can't do, in certain circumstances you may have to accept that you have a degree of disability as it affects your day to day movements. Hope that helps?

Thank you guys!!!

Abserd - Im sorry wrote this wrong! I dont want to be classified as disabled in working type things, sorry, but i meant in horse shows!! lol

I was just wondering about my riding ability because it seems that i find it hard to canter, but easy to trot. It hurts me more than normal people if i fall off...:o

I don't have a fuzzed spine but i have a curved spine witch has given me a really bad posture and a sligh hunch at 15. but that makes its hard for me to sit up straight on a horses back.

Thank you guys!!!

Ooops, sorry Kizza07!! I didn't realise - just started spouting my mouth off as per! I wonder if the paralympic people or riding for disabled groups in Australia can give you some idea of this? Sorry can't help more:o

I currently have a prolapsed disc, this is the 3rd time in 3 years and twice this year. I am really struggling and this time I find it is affecting my riding as I have almost no lower back mobility and my pelvis is tilted the wrong way. Obviously I am not riding at the moment, but the last time I rode I was in a lot of pain and my right leg went numb.

Make sure you get yourself reviewed by a good Consultant and have physio and the appropriate pain relief.

i do find canter difficult, I find it very difficult to absorb the movement. As for being disabled, there are various criteria and a scoring system, so I am not sure if you would be classed as disabled for riding purposes or not, Monty on here or the RDA would be best to advise you.

I've got 2 prolapsed discs & a 3rd one is bulging as a result of degenerative spinal disease.
I haven't been on a Horse since last year.
I could canter fine & do sitting trot, but not rise due to the weakness in my right leg.
My Horse is on working livery, as before I got ill I did shift work & couldn't get to the yard every day.
Since I've been Ill the yard work is off limits, even grooming is impossible.
I'm now medically retired (at no where near retirement age)
I've had some epidural treatment to stabilise the remaining discs, but nothing will repair the damage :(

Thank you all again!! I am so sorry it took so long to get back!!!

Abserd - Its OK!!! lol! Thank you for REPLYING to this thread along with everyone else who did!!! I might have to ask around!!

AFellPony - I do ride at the moment and will be for as long as i can!!! Which i am quessing will be until im retired!!!

thank you fair~filly and ambatt fo your stories!!! I find that they elp me greatly!!!

I was just really intrigued as my RI says that I am learning to canter fine, but i feel it VERY hard especially since i tend to tilt forward becuase of my back and they keep yelling at me to lean back... and it doesnt help that my horse will NOT go into canter until your BALANCED and doing EVERYTHING perfect!!! He's just a baby boy (at 14 years old!!!!)
