Fractured pelvis

Hi.
I suppose this isn't, technically speaking, disabled riding but I wondered if anyone could help? I fell off my horse three weeks ago and fractured my pelvis. I am, shall we say, a more mature rider and I have been told the fracture will take 6 - 8 weeks to heal. I was wondering if anyone had experience of this and if so how long it took to get back in the saddle.

Many thanks

Do you know where it was you fractured? Pubic rami (the bit at the bottom of your pelvis) is usually a weak point, but makes walking very painful, so I'd be wanting to wait til I'm pain free with walking and climbing stairs etc before I contemplate mounting as it's the point in which you'll be sat directly on so you'll quickly find it painful.

If I were you I'd look into a seat saver of some kind if you wanted to be a little more comfy on your return to riding, but that's my preference - I use an acavallo gel out seat saver, but again, total personal preference.

Thanks for your replies. Yes it was the pubic rami, the seatbone as you say. I wasn't intending to ride until after the 6-8 weeks as advised but wondered if anyone had any experience of riding at that point and whether it was painful. A seatsaver is a good idea, thanks.
