Sharing these photos for my own benefit as much as anyone else's, to remind myself what the sun looks like and how lovely my home county is! I had some time off in February and went to the UK to do some horsey visiting, but I also went home to Cornwall for 4 days and got some seriously lovely spring weather. As well as seeing my parents, I spent some time with my grandmothers, both of whom were really happy to see me for a bit. One had had eye surgery, which had gone well but she'd had a reaction to the stuff they'd put on her face and she was swollen, itchy and not feeling too great – the other had gone into a care home just that weekend and was having a hard time settling in. My parents had also been very stressed by the whole thing (long story, but not an easy time for any of them) so they were also happy to have a visit from their ever-absent younger daughter.

My dog Pepper is always pleased to see me so that was no surprise! My parents both booked Valentine's Day off work so that we could all go to the beach together and then out for lunch. I'm not close with my parents and when I'm abroad we go long periods of time without communicating, so it was nice to do something together like that. Half of the country was under snow at that point but Cornwall was dry and sunny (albeit still very cold!) and as beautiful as always.

This is Perranporth beach, one of our favourite dog-walking beaches and incidentally also fantastic for a good gallop when it's not covered in tourists! Pepper loves the beach and, as you can see, is particularly fond of stones and digging...

I also met up with my best friend who became a single mother in September and we were desperate for a proper catch-up. On one day we took her dog and the baby for a walk along the river, and then up to a small village called Malpas, which has a pub with super food (all local produce, marvellous!) and overlooks the River Fal. That particular day was mild enough for us to sit and eat outside, it was lovely.

Oh and a token baby pic of course! I don't “do” babies but Rhys is pretty cute!

Oh wow how I miss Cornwall, we used to go there for holidays every summer when I was young, brings back such happy memories.

How often do you go home to visit?

Lovely pics Joosie!

We are going for a week in te summer - think it will be the last time we can take nanny away so it will hopefully be a special holiday. Pretty excited. And the dog loved the beach so he will enjoy it too!

Lovely pics. We used to go to a place called Kennack Sands and Mullion every year - sometimes three times a year - I used to cry each time we had to leave. There will always be something special and magical about Cornwall. Used to love walking along the cliffs to Cadgwith and then having fresh fish for lunch. A very special place indeed. One day I'll go back.

I left the UK in July 2006 and I've been back 6 times since then. I always knew I was lucky to grow up in Cornwall but I don't think I truly appreciated it until I left home, it is a very unique and beautiful place. Admittedly it is easier to appreciate in the winter when it's not crawling with tourists, but I can see why so many people visit. I feel sorry for the people who only go as far as Devon, they don't know what they're missing :p

I have a Sony Cybershot HX1. It's a bridge camera which basically means it has many features of a DLSR but only one fixed lense - I would love a DSLR but on my wages that is probably never going to happen!

Lovely pics, thanks for sharing.

I am amazed though, the JRT looks really clean in all the shots! Obviously didn't find anything revolting to roll in.

Pepper doesn't really go in for rolling, she's usually too distracted by chasing stones and imaginary bunnies! She does roll in the sand sometimes but she's so smooth-coated it just comes straight off!
