Coffee & Cake Shop Chat

Blooming mares, almost 4 years we’ve had the same neighbours, all of a sudden next doors is fussing like a stallion along the fence and Jess is up there squealing and carrying on. Poor Niko just follows looking dumbfounded at all the commotion, I’m assuming it’s his presence getting the girls riled up.

Do you know any portable coffee makers for traveling abroad or going outdoors? I just adore coffee and want to always have it in any conditions.
This is a horse riders forum, and this is our virtual café, so not really coffee specialists, but I should think a good old French press would be a good bet as you can almost always get hot water no matter what country you are in.

I’m laid in bed still listening to the rain, rain we desperately need and I’m not complaining about it but it’s timing could have been better, it’s my one day off this week and it looks set to rain almost all day 😏

It is fowl here too. Im not rushing to go and turn the lambs out in this.
I have an excuse to lay in bed too. My arms, hands and back are in serious hurting/ache mode. I did some hedge cutting yesterday evening on the boys track. I noticed they werent going all the way round so i moved the wire out a bit and sure enough it was the over hanging hawthorns and bramble stopping them. Cos then were on the uneaten bit shortly after. So on my way to feed the cows i stopped off and did 2 hours of cutting. Weve lost about 12ft of field in the last few years from lack of maintenance. So now its trimmed back a bit, and i managed to put the track wire back in instead of tacking more hayfield. Job well done but now i am paying for it.

Think i will go shopping today whilst it rains. Last weekend i went to open the door to the tack room, and the door handle broke off in my hand. The only way i can get in the tack room currently is with a wrench, to grip and twist on the bit of remaining door handle. Chunky already broke the inside one when he hooked his headcollar on the handle so i couldnt shut the tack room from the inside, that was no biggy. But only opening with a wrench is ridiculous.
So a nice undercover wet weather tinkering job today. Might even stretch to some paperwork.

It’s still tipping down here. Poor old Jess was shivering this morning even though she was only a bit wet along her topline and had been stood mostly under the shelter.
So I’ve done some grocery shopping and am killing some time at home, probably a good thing as my backs been going into spasm a lot today. Here’s hoping it eases up a bit later for poo picking.

Our rain stopped about 9am, but very blowy again. Hogan nearly turned himself inside out when I brought him in. Discretion being the better part of valour, I decided to forgo a ride today - supposed to be better weather tomorrow.

Pouring here but due to go off about 7 so Robins buddy’s owner has brought them in and I’ll put them out after tea.

Facebook memories today reminding me of the first competition I did with Robin. Was only prelim and I just sat there while he won. Ignited a teeny hole that maybe we can do that again later this year.

I had a mad afternoon. Turned the sheep out at lunchtime, had to go pick brother up who had to take the works van back. So i filled up the car on route at petrol station. They down to garden machinery shop as he need parts for chainsaw, so as we were that end of town, flew into wickes to try and get a door handle for my tack room. Nothing suitable. So got to try B&Q tomorrow, or the littletown diy shop. Opposite wickes there is Tescos so as we were right there and i would have been due a shop Monday, we did it early. Chunkys new rider was coming, i was late back so i gave instructions for her to go get the horses in. She was just leading them up as i got back. Grabbed a coffee to take along to the tack room, slice of bread and a packet of crisps. That was lunch at 4pm.
Just waiting for pizza and jacket for tea, then off to do the rounds on the animals.

I'm picking up 25 more mud slabs tomorrow, someone near me selling them unused and I couldn't resist! I think I'm addicted to them. I'm hoping to order my shelter soon then Ale will be properly set for next winter 😊

I have to say my new shelter complex 🤣 really was fabulous in today’s torrential rain, they were all happy to be able to get in to eat and I was happy to be able to faf about checking them and sorting hay without getting drenched. You’ll love it when you get yours @Ale 😁

I've been digging out the French drain round our patio - for 2 weeks! Finished today. Hurray! Now all I have to do is pressure wash inside the pipe, put lining down, and choose gravel to fill it.

Yep thats why i love my covered yard tack up area. Stand there watching the rain going up the valley. Pee about doing stuff in the tack room or extra groom all in the dry to pass the time. Once i can see the hills over yonder, coast is clear.

Very very frustrating day today. But I expect telling people exactly what I think won’t go down well.

I can't wait, not sure I'll ever go home! Mats collected off to go add them to the current ones now, will all need lifting and rearranging when the shelter shows up but that's another day 😂

So here it is, I'm moving all the ones on the right to the gap where the loose ones are on the left to make a square as the right hand side flooded and is a bit slippery on a slope. It's 7m x 7.5m in total so a nice space and the shelter I'm looking at is 2.4m by 3m so he will have room to shelter all the way around the outside if he doesn't actually want to go in it!

It’s been knarly here all day, this wild streak is meant to break next week 🤞 bloody good job because even though I have many pairs of boots I’m running out of dry ones after the last few days it been that torrential!
